I was on the EB TransAtlantic and wanted to let everyone know about an excellent excursion available to do on your own in Barcelona. I booked the excursion through ShoreTrips for $110. I told my fellow DISers about it and two others booked it directly through Barcelona Glides (http://www.bcnglides.com) for 60 Euros. We were the only three on this tour. Edgar gave us a few minutes to get used to the segway (two of us had been on one before at Epcot, but the third person had no problem with it), then we took off on an almost three hour tour of Barcelona. We saw the old town, the gothic quarter, several of the plazas, the beach, the Olympic buildings, and more.

This tour was A+ and Edgar was full of information and very helpful. He even recommended an inexpensive restaurant just off Las Ramblas that is popular for the locals. I went back there for lunch and it was excellent. I had pasta, bread and a 1/4 litre of wine for 8 Euros (including tip).

thanks for the info--my dh wants to do this tour--now we can schedule it!!!!

:cool1:

I was the one with no experience on the Segway and I have to say that Edgar was very good about making me feel that it was easy to learn - and it was - I'd say about 10 minutes after practice we were off on our wonderful tour of Barcelona - I was in awe how much fun it was and how much we had seen!

I have heard such awesome things about the Segway tour in Barcelona. Do you think they would allow children to ride with an adult -- is that possible?

I don't remember seeing an age limit, but I'm pretty sure there was a minimum weight requirement of 99 pounds. Contact Edgar for your questions. We had talked to him about a friend that wanted to go but was over the weight limit. He said he could probably work with her on that and indicated he was flexible. I sent him an email after I got back and he responded almost immediately, so I'm sure he'll answer your questions. I assume that you can get to his email through the website, but if not, here is what I have: info@spainglides.com.

Susie-thanks for posting. I was going to post also but have been very busy since getting home and went right to work!

Robert and I did the segway tour with Edgar on Sunday morning after the EB Med at 10 a.m. Robert and I were the only two on the tour. Edgar was awesome. We did the same tour as you and had almost 3 hours with him. Edgar speaks excellent english and was very knowledgeable about the whole area. (and he is not bad looking either!)

I told him I would post a good review on the disboards and encourage others going over to the Med. this summer.

He said anyone over 13 years of age is welcome on the tour. You can't ride double. He is doing a 10 a.m. tour and 5 p.m. tour this summer. We rebooked with him for July 17th for Robert, me and our DD Jamie (15) to do it again because we loved it. We get on the Magic on Wed. the 18th. We booked the 5 p.m. tour if anyone wants to join us.

The cost when you book directly with him is 60 euros per person. You pay cash at the end of the tour in Euros.

I will try to post a couple of pictures of the tour when I get a chance.

Hope that helps give people additional information!

I looked at that, thought it would be great but with a 6 year old we couldn't do it. Maybe next time if I make it over again.

I took the tour with Susie and Mary. It was awesome. As was mentioned above, Edgar was a fantastic tour guide. He said his marketing skills weren't great so he appreciated us getting the word out about his tours.

I would SOOOO love to do this but since we arrive in Barcelona at 9:15 am and have to be on board for the 5 PM boat drill, I can't make the times for either tour. They need a mid-afternoon tour!!!

I bet if you discuss this with him, he might work that out.

Great advice I am definitely going to look into it. Do you know if they all children on them? I am on the Med cruise on 6/27 and have a few days before. the kids would love this... They are 12,13, and 15.

Also, do you remember the name of that great restaurant? and what street it was on? every little bit helps!! Thanks so much

The name of the restaurant is Les quinze nity and it is located at Placa Reial 6. Placa Reial is just off La Rambla. As you head north from the Columbus statue, turn right on Colom and you will enter the plaza. The restaurant is on the north (northeast) side of the plaza.

Also, just after you enter the plaza from Colom, on the right is a herb shop where you can purchase saffron for a very reasonable price.

The next street north on La Rambla (past Colom) is carrer de Ferran and this is the street you would take to reach Placa de Sant Jaume (the plaza where you meet for the segway tour). You can also reach this street by exiting out of the north side of the Placa Reial.

When you email Edgar, ask him about the 12 year old. I am sure if you feel comfortable with the 12 year old, he would probably give you the go ahead. He was very nice to work with!

We had been thinking of doing this, and the great comments from the DIS group (thanks!) convinced us. I booked the tour today on the web site. I had an email back within the hour, and even had a response to a question I asked back. The email was from Edgar, and his English was wonderful!

He recommended taking a taxi from the hotel. We will have four adults...think we can fit in a taxi?

Not a problem, as long as you don't have luggage! One in front and three in back. Might be a little tight, but will work.

You can also take their subway if you are close to the subway line, it drops off right at Jaume Square (Jamie is how I pronounce it) and you go up the stairs and turn right, go down a half a block and it dumps you right into the square. We caught the subway at Paza d'Espanya. It was really easy to get to and I think it was 1,25 euros each to take the subway.
