Does anyone know anything about this? I was told that you can get hair cuts there. Boys and girls? I s it expensive? Does it have the "magical touch" worth waiting and not getting everyone their vacation cuts before we go?:)

We got our DS's first haircut at the barber shop on Main Street on his first birthday. It cost $14.00 (minus tip) and they gave our son Mickey ears that say "First Haircut" stitched on the back and also gave him a certificate. They saved some of the hair also and included mickey confetti with it. We did see a little girl there that day also. It was magical for us since it was our son's first haircut and it was on his first birthday. We got there as soon as the park opened since we heard the line can be very long during the day. I think it was a wonderful experience. :goodvibes

I'm pretty sure the haircut DH got on Halloween (2007) was $17.00.

If you don't want to wait, either head over first thing in the morning, or about a half-hour before the parade.

We've done this a few times with my girls. They get a decent hair cut, some sparkles in their hair, a face full of stickers and a Mickey ears hat that says "First Haircut". It' not bad, but cheaper then the BBB and they kids still love it.

I have had my hair cut on main street a few times. It is not expensive and the magic makes it worth the wait. The earlier in the morning the better off you are as far as the line goes. I have seen it get to be wait outside and take a number in the middle of the day. I am a girl and I was pleasantly surprised how much the male barbers knew about womens hair styles. They add pixie dust to your hair. If you have bright blonde hair, like me, they can not put color in because it will not come out.

I'll be the annoying person with the negative opinion...

We took DS for a haircut when he was 4. He sat perfectly still and was very good, but the cut was poor. I usually take him to a walk-in place or buzz it myself so I wasn't being picky! It was really crooked in back and over one ear. They gave him some stickers, but didn't offer the confetti or any extras even though his sister sat in the next chair (a tiny place) and got confetti while he was getting his cut. (He jumped out of the chair relieved for it to be over so I didn't press the confetti issue.)

As far as Disney goes, the price was only a couple bucks more than a walk-in place, so certainly not a bad deal. It just wasn't a "magical" experience for us. Unless your youngest is getting his/her first cut, I'd skip it altogether or else just take the kids in for confetti or Mickey-shaped (uh) gel. DD LOVED her confetti (I think they called it Pixie Dust) and it was only ~$4 (Feb '07)

From all of the positive comments here on the Disboards we were really excited about this cut. That may have contributed to our disappointment over the cut being so normal and unexciting. DS would have preferred the walk-in place where he gets a lollipop instead of stickers and doesn't have to endure Mom evening up the poorly cut places.

Getting his hair cut at the barbershop off Main Street has become a tradition for our younger son. He's gotten a good cut, coloring, and sparkles each time. At age 7, I think he's finally too old for the glitter and color. After getting his hair "done" last week, he complained incessantly about the his head itching. I don't think it really was -- he just wanted the color out. We took him to a restroom and easily washed out the coloring. He was much happier after that. BTW, the "color" does not dry very quickly and gets all over EVERYTHING.

My girls had updo's and colored gel with lots of pixie dust last week. The price is now $7.50 but it sure beats BBB prices and I actually think it looked much better.

I love the barber shop on main street. I think it is worth the trip there every trip. My son got a "first hair cut" there when he was one and it was so wonderful. I love micheal and last time i went he remembered my family and everything from the year before.

We went back this year and the experience was just as great. This time my son got his hair colored blue and had the mickey confetti put in it along with the hair cut which was done great. Everyone commented on his hair and loved it. It does get everywhere though, I had to take out a few baby wips and wipe off a characters face when they gave him a hug.

In the past micheal was always suggested to go to so thats who does my sons cuts and I must say he always cuts it just the way I want it.

We had my DD4's first haircut done there in September. It was $14-15 and they did a wonderful job. In fact, the lady barber was fearful of cutting off too much and I had to practically beg her to cut more. Since it was my DD's first haircut and she was almost 4, her hair was nearly waist length, blonde and had goldilocks curls at the end. The barber outright refused to cut off the curls, so she only trimmed the ends. :rotfl: I didn't want to see the curls go either, so it was nice to have an unaggressive stylist. Anyway, my DD loved it and it was a wonderful experience. In addition to the "My First Haircut" ears, she gaves us an official Main Street Barber Shop certificate with the date and my DD's name on it - perfect for her baby book! :goodvibes

My older DD had the confetti and coloring thing done to her hair. It was $5 in September and a great deal. A few days earlier we'd done the BBB with them and my DD actually got more attention from people in the parks over the Barber Shop confetti hair do than the BBB stuff - people were constantly asking me where she got her hair done.

DBF and I are 23 and he gets his hair cut there. We live here, so he gets it done every few months and really, it's the best deal around (in parks or out). I think they do a very good job - a little bit different every time. I actually convinced him to get the gel & pixie dust his first time too!! DBF was not amused.. but I love the pictures. We always go right before the parade starts, as there is usually not much of a line

PS - We learned the hard way.. if you're going to get pixie dust and colored gel, do splash mountain BEFORE the haircut..

My boys get their hair cut there every trip. It's up to $14 for a child cut, adults cost more. We go to a kids place because my littler two aren't easy to cut and that costs $15.95, so we feel it's a real bargain. Some cuts have been better than others, but all have been pretty good.

My middle son had his first hair cut there a few years ago. He was so wiggly at 7 months that they couldn't really cut it, so they still did all the first hair cut things, but didn't charge us. They only got a few snips. He was beginning to look like a girl, so I did have to take him to our normal place to get it cut for real--which they were able to do, but it is a place that specializes in children and they are used to uncooperative kids.

My oldest loves the attention he receives with the color, the "pixie dust", and the Mickey head on the back of his head. My second likes it all, but the attention from strangers--he's much shyer.

They'll tell you that it takes an hour to dry, but count on more like three hours. So be very careful of what you're doing during that time. And don't get on any "wet" rides after it is colored. It can also get very itchy as it dries. We also have a hard time washing it completely out--not that my boys care. They would like to keep it for a couple of days.

We LOVED this on our last trip.

DS (4) had a cut and had the color and pixie dust. For boys they sprinkle little confetti Mickey heads. DS got to pick his hair color and picked blue and yellow.

DD (9) didn't do the cut, but did the updo and pixie dust. She also had little Cinderella type confettis. It was absolutely gorgeous. We didn't want to wash it out!

We had comments everywhere we went about how cute/pretty the hairdos were. All of our Chef Mickey pictures are so cute because we went to dinner there right after the hairdos.

We did have a hard time finding the place and ended up asking someone who escorted us there. When you walk into the park the barbershop is to the left just past Tony's I think. It's back in a corner.

One plus for us was that we had this done during the afternoon parade, so we waited out front and watched the parade with no one around us since this is basically the end of the parade where the floats exit. I have some great pictures!

I hope you try it!

Angie

We've gone there twice. The first time we didn't have to wait more than 20 minutes or so, the next time we waited almost an hour. Both times, we were on our way to the resort for our break.

The boys absolutely love it! They put the colored gel in their hair, the hidden Mickey in the back and the Mickey dust.....we got a lot of weird looks, but it was fun!

Is the barber shop open the entire time the park is or do they have shortened hours?

The hours I believe are 9-5, they are shortened.

We have had good and bad experiences, long and short waits. We have waited over two hours and the least we have waited is probably about 40 minutes. Last time at 4 my son's hair was cut horrible. It can happen any place, but it was like, gee, why did I even get his hair cut. It was crooked and she didn't touch the top of it which I kept asking. Alot of times I think they are trying to hurry. They have never offered confetti or coloring, although I know if I want it I can ask. I think it is becoming even more popular since the BBB and people have found out the price at the barbershop.

My DS got his cut 2 weeks ago...GREAT CUT! Years ago, he had the first haircut/Mickey Hat when he was one...it was sooooooooooooo cute!

The wait was about an hour, though!

I gues we were lucky. we had no wait at all. just walked in at about 9:45. She said we had just missed the crowd. Micheal cut my oldest DS's hair. We weren't planning to get it cut but he decided to when they started on lil DS. Did a good job too. Little DS had his first haircut and enjoyed it. Would like to go back and get the hairdo for DD this year since we prob won't do BBB again this year. (BTW they did a great job too might just want to do something different)
