Bar Questions

Okay, I have a few questions regarding bars for my wedding. I just don't really get the terminology at all, so I could do with some help!

1. What is a package bar? Does that mean I pay $40pp (or whatever) and they can have unlimited drinks?

2. Can I add some "call brands", i.e. Jack Daniels to the beer and wine package?

3. What is the billed on consumption bar? Does that mean guests pay for all their own drinks?

4. And finally, can I have an open bar (package bar???) for say 4 hours and then switch to a bar where the guests pay for there own drinks?

5. What happens at the DP, do I need two bars?

2. Can I add some "call brands", i.e. Jack Daniels to the beer and wine package? They said that we could do substitutions on the bar but if you're doing Beer & Wine package, they might do BOC for call brand liquor or do the next package up
3. What is the billed on consumption bar? Does that mean guests pay for all their own drinks? A cash bar is where guests pay for their own drinks. BOC or bill on consumption is where the bride & groom are billed after the wedding for the actual amount of drinks ordered. This works well if you have a smaller group or not a lot of heavy drinkers. We did this and saved over $1000 from what a package bar would have cost. Also with BOC you can have them use the regular bands for drinks unless a guest requests a specific premium or call brand (then you are charged accordingly)

4. And finally, can I have an open bar (package bar???) for say 4 hours and then switch to a bar where the guests pay for there own drinks? You can but Disney discourages that b/c who wants to be the person to suddenly tell a guest, well the drink you had 10 minutes ago was free but this is $8

We're going with a package par mostly so we won't be worrying or obsessing during the reception about how much people are drinking or about people setting down drinks and forgetting about them. We were in disbelief about the package bar prices: the top package seemed priced very nicely for an "all you can drink" affair. It may ultimately be cheaper for us to do a BOC but we have a few heavy drinkers and I don't want to worry about cost etc on the day of the reception.

As for substitutions, they are letting us sub wines in and out (like trading the white zin for a riesling. I imagine that they would let you add in a brand name liquor.

I'm not sure about the dessert party : we're having a pre dinner reception outside and then moving inside for the plated dinner. Our bar will stay outside on the whitehall patio with guests running back and forth for drinks.

That is a VERY good point!!! Might go ahead and do the package bar all night, I only have 25 guests so the price isn't too bad. I'm still unsure about what happens with the DP though. Anyone help?

We had an unlimited bar at the reception which ran us for 3.5 hours then when we went to Sago Cay for the DP we cut it off..

The Sweet Dreams Package dessert we had came with coffee and tea so we cut the sodas and things.. plus they set up a water station incase someone didn't like tea of coffee...plus it saved us some money.


But I will say I wish we would have doen BOC because not many of our guest knew they could order a drink with their dinner. Since water was already on the table, most guests just drank their water with there dinner... I didn't see many people.. (unless I told them to order one because we paid for unlimited!)

With 25 guests I would crunch the numbers and consider doing a BOC bar. We have about 35 guests coming and while we know that there might be a few heavy drinkers, some people won't drink at all. I can't see paying for a package bar when I know my grandparents and a few others won't drink a sip. We are having two signature drinks so we took the price for those and divided it by the package bar cost and we estimated our guests needed to drink about 7 drinks or more to break even... no way is grandma drinking 7 drinks lol.

If you use a BOC bar what happens about meeting your 10,000 minimum? We want to try and stay as close to this minimum as possible but also want a BOC bar. Do they charge you a certain amount upfront and then reimburse you if does not cost as much ?

That's exactly what they do. They charge you by what they think people will drink (on my BEO is was 1k) and after the wedding they reimburse you the difference. If you go over what they estimated then they deduct it from your deposit before giving it back to you.

Hmmm, with my family I'm pretty sure they will make every use of a package bar. There will only be my nephew and niece who won't drink, so I think a package bar is the best option for us. Plus, I don't wanna be worrying about how much people are drinking, because of the costs.
