Hey folks, I just noticed in the reservation confirmation email a bar code. Normally I just wrote down the reservation number and showed a passport, but are you supposed to print out those bar codes to show a valid reservation at check in, or is it unnecessary? Thanks!

No I dont think so, its just another way to present the confirmation number.

Also when you link your reservation to your MDE, you can use your phone camera to scan the barcode on a computer or tablet.

Was that because you didn’t wanted to use the MDE app?
As a foreigner I never had to show any ID but I checked in using the MDE app🤷‍♂️
We had to show ID at Beach Club Villas during the week between Christmas and New Years -- both when we arrived the at the security gate and then when we changed rooms at the front desk after 3 nights (studio to 1 BR). First (and second) time that has happened.

I thought maybe you could use it to scan with the MDE app since the number with the barcode is the same as the reservation number but that did not work. "We had trouble linking the code you scanned. Please try again" is the error I received.

The barcode must only show up on WDW resorts. It did not show up on VDH, VGC, AUL, VB or HHI reservations I had made (or possibly they were too old to have the barcode).

Wow. I have never experienced that. When I arrive at the gate they scan my magic band and let me drive through. I never go to the front desk, always directly to the room. Only exception was when we did club level at AKV, I approached the front desk and they called the club level staff. They scanned my magic band and took us up to the club level floor.

I don't recall if they asked for the MB at the gate or not, but we had it ready to go. I know he asked for name and then ID. We don't have a common last name either so it's not like we could have just made up a name. The front desk was a weird one too since we literally were staying in the same resort and switching rooms. Sounded like maybe it was protocol for that week at Beach Club. We switched to BWV the last night and they did not ask for ID. They were just a little confused how we got to the front desk w/luggage at 6:30 in the morning without scanning in through the security gate. Had to explain we just walked from BCV.

Last several years even with magic band they have always asked for our ID but we never do online check in

Here also. I probably do half and half. Online check in requires a credit card and I'm still leary about passing them my credit card as it was compromised once at the BWV. I had to go on credit monitoring etc.

I reluctantly started doing online check in again. Most notable, I had door problems of all kinds. Magic band wouldn't work. Phone wouldn't work. Battery in door was dead at BCV. Door at Grand Floridian was a nightmare in March 24, we had 5 people and we would get one set working and the rest would go wonky.

Going to the desk at least meant they would check your band before the trek to the room. That wasn't always foolproof either.

I always make sure I have 2 active bands on my trips and I deactivate any others in my account. The extra band is loose in my car for trying to swat the gate opener as I enter the resort due to the fact I can never reach the target with it on my wrist. I've considered attaching one to a stick for extra reach.
