I have 78 points for 2013 and 100 for 2014.
I am going to book at the 11 month window this week for my 2013 vacation.
I will need 166 pts. for 7 days and 138 pts. for 6 days
My question is; I am not sure if I want to stay 6 or 7 nights. If I use 166 pts. and later decided to drop a night, can I still bank the points for that 1 night seeing as I will be using 78 pts. from the current UY? If so, do I need to ask for anything specific when I make the reservation? (Meaning, if I know Saturday will be the dropped night, do I need to specify that I want them to use the 2013 pts for that night?)

yes you can still bank the 2013 points. the 2013 points return back to the 2013 UY. Then you can bank them when you are ready and as long as you do so by your banking deadline.

You do not need to specify allocation of current and borrowed points to days of vacation at time of reserving to later be able to drop a night and have current use year points that can be banked come out of the reservation.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure before I make a mistake.

Just to be sure, when/if you drop nights, tell MS that you want current use year points returned to your account so that you have the option to bank them later.

FWIW, It is a good habit to request a points status from the CM before you hang up every time you do a transaction. If the status he/she gives you does not match what you expect, it is a LOT easier to fix at that time than it is later when you discover the problem. I've prevented a hassle or two over the years by doing that. :)

I hadn't thought about that - great idea - Thanks
