Banking Question

I have 202 points from 2003, I just made a reservation using these points for a vacation 7/26/04 t0 8/05/04. I got a confirmation # from member services. Do I still need to bank these points? I believe I have until January 04 to do so. My confirmation email did not mention this. Member services borrowed points from my 2004 use year that I needed and I don't know if they banked the points also.

What is your use year? Unless you told them to bank the points, they wouldn't have done it. Now that the other points are borrowed, they have to stay that way. Make sure to bank the 2003 points and use them before they are lost.

With an August use year that means that your 202 points could be used from August 1, 2003 to July 31, 2004. So they probably deducted some of those points for the 7/26 to 7/31 portion of your trip. Then they probably used 2004 points for the rest of it. It doesn't seem like they would have to borrow from your 2005 use year.

You may want to call and see if you have any 2003 points left. If you are not making any more trips until next July bank what's left. Then find out how many of the 2004 points were used and ask if any from 2005 had to be borrowed.

What happened is that with an August use year, and your vacation dates going from Jul 26th to Aug 5th, is that part of your vacation is in your 2003 use year and part is in your 2004 use year.

If you can tell me what kind of accommodation and resort you got, I can tell you the exact points and how they were used.

Here's how an August use year is used:

2003.....Aug 1, 2003 through Jul 31, 2004
2004.....Aug 1, 2004 through Jul 31, 2005
2005.....Aug 1, 2005 through Jul 31, 2006

I'm assuming you had no 2002 points that were banked into 2003. If some of the 202 points you had were actually banked 2002 points then that changes things.

You have 202 points for 2003. These points can be used to make a reservation through July 31, 2004, so they would have been used to make your Jul 26, 2004 through July 31, 2004 dates.

Your Aug 1, 2004 through Aug 5, 2004 dates are in your 2004 use year and require 2004 points.

If you say MS borrowed points from your 2004 year, then apparently your July dates required more than the 202 points you had in year 2003, so MS borrowed enough to make up the difference. Then they used regular 2004 points for the August days.

Again, if you post back what resort and room type you got, I can give you an exact point breakdown of how it went.

From what you've said, it doesn't look like you have any points to bank.

If your point total is 202 then the following most likely happened if you didn't use any 2003 or 2004 points on another trip:

For July 26 through July 31, it would take 274 points. So you used up your full compliment of 2003 points and had to borrow 72 more from 2004.

Then for the Aug 1 through August 4 dates you used 128 more of your 2004 points. This means you should have a total of 2, 2004 points left.

So you should have nothing to bank.
