Banking question

HI all DVC gurus,

I have a question regarding banking (I know not another one, but this one is a little different, I promise :-)) . In reading info on banking on dvcmembers web site, they talk about your "bank". In their example, they use a member with 400 points and say that once you've banked 400 points your bank is full and you can no longer bank any additional points.

Now for my specific case. I own a small contract of 50 points at BLT. We plan on going every other year in a studio by banking/borrowing. If I would obtain additional points from another member via a transfer of 100 points, could I bank those 100 points and my 50 points in the same use year? Here is specifcially what I'm trying to do: I'll have 49 points in my March 2012 use year and am planning banking them into the 2013 use year. What I would love to do is to surprise DW with a 1 Bedroom with a Magic Kingdom view for our 25th anniv. Since I will only have 149 points available to me for a trip in Oct 2013 (49 banked, 50 current, and 50 borrowed), I need additional points. If I find a member with 100 Dec 11 use year points, can I bank them as well or do I need to wait and find points that are current for my travel date? (the issue of "bank" tied to your contract is the point that is confusing me).

Thanks in advance,

John

Yes, you would be able to bank the transferred points since they are tracked without regard to your own account. You could also have 2012 points transferred into your account and would not need to bank them at all. You can accept a transfer into your 2012 Use Year right now and do not need to wait until that Use Year begins. (Transfers may be made from the current Use Year and next Use Year. You are now in your March 2011, Use Year and can accept transfers from a 2011 Use Year and a 2012 Use Year at this time.)

Sounds like a nice Anniversary surprise!

Enjoy! :)

Thanks Doc.

What I didn't add is that our DD wants to go down in May 2012. I've found someone to transfer me points for her trip and they are Dec 11 UY points. After finding this member it then dawned on me, hey they might have extra points for my trip so I decided to ask now before I do the transfer. I had tried member services but they weren't open yet.

Yes, I'm hoping she will be suprised :-)

Thanks again!

John

Yes you can have points transferred in and use them for different trips and bank some and not others. Just remember the one transfer per use year rule. You can have only one transfer, in or out but not both, per use year. Thus if that other member transfers in any 2011 points, you cannot later get any more 2011 use year transfers, but you could get a 2012 use year transfer.

Is it one transfer per UT or one transfer per calendar year? I thought it was UY but Jamie @ TTS told me it is calendar year.

Jamie double check with member services and was told it is one transfer per UY.

Sorry for any confusion/misinformation. :sad2:

Here's the documentation from the Home Resort Rules and Regulations.

II. USING HOME RESORT VACATION POINTS 5.a. Banking Home Resort Vacation Points. Any time during the first eight calendar months of a Club Member’s Use Year, a Club Member may Bank up to 100% of their annual allotment of Home Resort Vacation Points to the next Use Year. After the first eight calendar months of a Club Member’s Use Year, Members cannot bank any portion of their annual allotment of Home Resort Vacation Points for that Use Year. In order for Banked Home Resort Vacation Points to be used for a reservation, the Home Resort Vacation Points must be banked before the reservation is made. Once Banked, Home Resort Vacation Points cannot be Banked again into another Use Year. Also, Banked Home Resort Vacation Points cannot be returned to their original Use Year and will expire if not used. From time to time, the DVC Operator may provide for extended banking rights to Club Members during their first Use Year.

II. USING HOME RESORT VACATION POINTS 6.c. All Transferred Home Resort Vacation Points retain the Use Year of the transferring Club Member and expire at the end of the transferring Club Member's Use Year, unless they are Banked.

So like Webmaster Doc said. Your points and the transferred points are separate contracts and each can be banked.
