When I banked my 2004 points, I asked the representative to rebook my 2005 vacations so I can use my banked points first. She replied she would do it. When I call the other day, I hear this was never done and ther are no 2005 points remaining to bank. My points remaining are from 2004 and cannot be banked. Any suggestions on how to get this corrected?

Call MS back and ask to have the points reallocated so that the 2004 points are used for the reservation and the 2005 points are returned to your account. THen you can ask to bank the 2005 points (subject to the banking rules). Just explain what happened. It shouldn't be a problem to fix. Hopefully, you still are within your banking deadlines for the 2005 points.

FWIW, I always ask for a status of my points after each transaction with MS. It's a whole lot easier to starighten out any misunderstandings when they happen than it is later.

Good luck!

Speak to a supervisor and give her as much info as possible including the day you called and person you talked to. If they can convince themselves you actually called and gave those instructions you have a chance. However, you should know that they could only rebook this IF those days were available at the time. You cannot simply sub the points. You are essentially canceling the rebooking with the different points. Do you have time to bank the points now if they do sub them?

I'm not sure I agree with the statement that "they could only rebook this IF those days were available at the time. You cannot simply sub the points." I am assuming that the banked points are from the same resort as the current year points that were used to make the reservation. If the points were from another resort, I would agree with you. But in this case, the OP is not trying to get around the 7/11 month booking rules. I don't see how reallocating the points in this case would be unfair to other members - what am I missing?

Best wishes -

Carol, ANY substituting of points requires canceling and rebooking the room, this is the rule. It is not divided up by home resort or non home resort points. I do know that MS has the power to do it the other way but the policy is not to. This is a change from a number of years ago. But like anything else Disney, I'm sure it is inconsistently enforced.

While I'm a big believer in owners getting every benefit if they own at THAT resort (including unit assignments), I don't think that simply substituting the points when all is booked up is an appropriate, reasonable or fair thing to do. Especially given the current way transferred points are handled. Even without transferred points, it would certainly give some owners a major advantage in using points and banking related to high demand times. I can think of several ways to use and abuse this issue, which is why it was changed a few years ago.

I guess I could expand on those thoughts but doing so in the past has gotten me in trouble so PM me if you want more.

Thanks for the repsonse. Guess I don't care enough to trouble you via PM for more.

Just more reason to be sure that MS actually does what you want them to do. Risky to assume they do. I think eveyrone should get into the habit of having MS give them a status of their points just before they end the conversation. It would save many a lot of grief.

I hate the transfer "bug" and hope DVC gets it fixed soon. It should be easy for MS to do what the rules say and impossible (without supervisor intervention) to something the rules prohibit. I do not like that transferred points seem to lose their original home resort and use year. Way too many opportunities for the unscrupulous to do things they are not entitled to do under the rules.

Best wishes-

I'm not sure it will ever get fixed as I suspect it would require them creating a whole new "sub membership" for each member for each transfer in that is a different use year and home resort than what they already have. Being able to transfer points is a relatively unique option within the points timeshare systems. Maybe others allow it but I know some don't and doubt any do to the extent DVC does. The only way they could likely fix it would be to stop transfers altogether, something I think they could do the way I read the rules.

Just a related (I THINK) question...I recently booked a transaction that involved banked points and I believe the CM told me that their system AUTOMATICALLY applies banked points FIRST to any reservation...no? But in any case I agree that it is always worth getting a recap of your points both before and after any transaction.

It is true that if you have banked or borrowed points in your account, they will normally use them first. But not always so you should always specify and make certain.

I agree, it may never be fixed. Remember when DVC first started it was only one resort, so the idea of transferring points was a non-issue.

I'm currently working on a DVC point tracking program and by necessity have set it up the same way. Transferred points have to be assigned to a home resort and use year month. There is no way to easily have points retain another member's home resort and use year month since the person receiving the points doesn't have the same resort/month as an existing contract in their account.

To set up a sub-account to hold those transferred points would be a nightmare. A person may have a transfer one time and never do it again. Or if they have other transfers, it most likely would not be the same resort/use year month each time. Keep in mind there are 8 possible use year months, and currently 7 resorts. That's 56 different combinations of resort/use year month. So theoretically an owner could have a single membership, and up to 55 sub-membership numbers.

You may own June OKW, and transfer someone's August BWV points this year. That's a new sub-account. Next year you may transfer someone else's December SSR points, so that's a different sub-account. And so on.

I've found that anytime I call MS to make or modify a ressie in any way shape or form they always update me at the end with my points for the current year as well as the following year. I never even have to ask =)

That's the way it SHOULD work, but once in awhile you get a CM who is "too busy" to give the courtisy.

Tampapirate, I suggest you contact Member Services & ask them about your points "issue."
