Banking Points Question - % of total allotment

Hi,
I have a December UY. I'm taking a trip in September with most of my remaining 2015 points but will have 5-10 to bank depending upon where I end up staying. If my waitlist comes through I'll have 5 points to bank. If it does not come through I will have 15 points to bank. I found this on another fan website:

From seven to twelve months in advance of the end of the UY, 100% of the total annual allotment of points may be banked; from four to six months in advance of the end of the UY, 50% of the total annual allotment of points may be banked; from three months in advance of the end of the UY, 25% of the total annual allotment of points may be banked; from two months or less in advance of the end of the UY, no points may be banked.

I think this means that I can bank up to 37 points (25% of my total yearly allotment of 150) any time before September 30 (3 months before the end of my UY). Is this correct?

I'm trying to see when I need to give up on my waitlist if I want to make sure to bank all unused points.

I am still pretty new to this myself, but i believe that you have to bank by 4 months prior to your next UY. Hope that makes sense. I do not believe that there is a percentage based on the time frame. So 4 months prior to your next US - so for December you would need to bank by July 31st -- Someone can correct me on the exact banking date for a Dec UY

That information is outdated. You can bank all points up to 4 months out.

Outdated Info.

Your banking deadline is July 31st. All points must be banked by then.

It is probably not a best practice to bank points, then turn around and borrow them, however, with the small point amount you are talking about, you can leave your wait list as is, and if it comes through, points will be borrowed to fill it.

The risk with that is if your waitlist triggers, and borrows points, that action can not be done. So, if you cancel your trip, those points expire on 11/30.

If it were me, I would bank all 15 just before your banking deadline. If the wait list comes through, 10 points will be borrowed back.

And by "borrowed back" you mean that next year's points are borrowed, not that the same ones you just banked come back. Just to be clear.

Correct. Banking and borrowing can not be undone.

However, if you bank 2015 points into 2016, as long as you make a ressie in your 2016 UY, the banked points will be the first used. If you do not make a ressie in your 2016 UY, those banked points will expire.

If you bank 2015 points into 2016, they are stuck in 2016 and expire at the end of that UY.

If you then borrow points because your waitlist comes through, you will be borrowing 2016 points, which not become 2015 points, and must be used in 2015.

Those are the old banking rules, they were changed a few years ago.

One of the benefits of the internet is that you can search for and find very old information. One of disadvantages of the internet is that there so many posts, articles, and internet pages that you can find which have no date added to them to tell you that they are very old. What you found was the original DVC banking rule that existed before January 2008, when the current banking rule went into effect which allows you to bank any and all of your points by the end of the eighth month of your use year, but none during the last four months.

Thanks everyone! I'll wait until July to see if my waitlist comes through then decide if I want to bank everything or not.
