Banking Points Past Deadline

Yesterday was my banking deadline for one of my other timeshares and I am on the waitlist for a reservation prior to the end of my use year so I had a decision to make on whether to bank all points and borrow if my waitlist comes through (which I didn't really want to do) or risk not banking that portion needed for my reservation with the risk of losing them. Well, reservations told me if my reservation didn't go through they would bank the points I held back (even though my banking deadline was past) and member services, not the same entity - go figure, told me the same thing and also said they don't want people to lose vacation time. What do you think of this practice and should DVC do the same thing? Since a resort is booked up they are not really creating a problem by doing this since I'm not leaving a unit empty this "use year" and using my points next "use year" and keeping another member from using their points. Just thought I would pass this idea along.
