Banking "free" '09 points????

We just bought into Disney last night and we received '09 points for free. We have a June UY and I know that we will have til January 31st every year to bank our remaing points, but do we have to bank the '09 points that they just gave us or do they automatically roll those points into the next UY? We wont be traveling until November, so we wont be using the '09 points until then, I just want to make sure that we dont wast the FREE POINTS!!

I already have an email into our DVC guide, but I thought I'd get everyone elses opinion/knowledge.-Steve

You'll need to bank them yourself otherwise they will expire May 31, 2010. MS will assist with that.

These are not really "free" points. They are simply the points in the current Use Year. Until February 1 all contracts still have 2009 Use Year points. On February 1, those with a February Use Year will only be able to get 2010 points with a new purchase and contracts with that Use Year will no longer be sold with 2009 points. Other Use Year sales will still come with 2009 points until their 2010 Use Year begins.

Over the past few years, MS has allowed new purchasers to bank current points in their contract beyond the banking deadline. This was not always the case though. They still have not been allowing resale purchasers to bank beyond the deadline.

I actually just added on and our banking deadline is March and my closing is the end of Feb, so I was worried since you cant bank online until you have your closing It says your contract needs your attention. So all I did was call member services and they banked them for me and it does show banked online as well.

Call guide. As part of the sale process they allow you to bank the points even though closing may result after the 8 month window. Thus, call and make sure that is done as part of the process.

Yes Bank them. we bought in May 08 uy Dec and we banked them right away because we knew we would not use them till March 09

Even if your guide tells you he will take care of banking, I would still give MS a call and be sure that it is done since you know for sure you won't be using them.
