So here is my scenario...
Our UY is March.
We have banked point from 2011 that we are combining with 2012 point to use this summer. I think we'll have 41 left over. We are planning a trip in December 2012. We will take the 41 remaining and borrow from 2013 to cover that. If we needed additional points for Dec 2012 could we borrow from 2014 or would we have to rent points or pay cash, etc.?

A December 2012 vacation falls into your 2012 use year (March-February). For that trip you can use 2012 points, borrowed 2013 points or banked 2011 points. You cannot use 2014 points.

Everything is based on the UY of travel. The easiest way for me to remember what I can and can not use is to first figure that out. Once I know what UY I am traveling, then I know I can use banked points from the UY prior to travel, the UY of travel, and borrow from the UY after the travel.

So, as Vicki explained, since your Dec 2012 trip is in your 2012 UY, you can only borrow from 2013.

Thank you for the explanation. I thought that was the case. Still getting used to all of the "rules"

Also, remember that there is a once-a-use-year opportunity to purchase up to 25 points if you find yourself a few points short. They are $15/point including tax.

except that these pts cannot be used until the 7 month window opens...(also, the cutoff is 24 pts IIRC.)
