Banking and Borrowing

My wife and I just made an offer on a resale contract (our first) at AKV. The Use year is December. All of 2008's point are coming on 12/1/08. I just want to make sure that we can bank those points and we have until 11/30/10 to use them correct? We are planning a trip in Feb 2010 and we would like to bank our 08 and 09 points and use them and borrow part of our 2010 points for that trip and save the rest the rest for a trip in 2011.

So am I totally wrong in my way of thinking?

You can only bank points one year ahead. '08 to '09, '09 to '10, etc.

The way I understand it is this...

December UY
Bank 2008 pts. (These would be good until November 30, 2010)

2009 pts are good from December 1, 2009 to November 30, 2010

2010 pts could be borrowed.

A February 2010 trip would work to use all these points.


Is this right???

Yes this is correct .
2008 Use Year points would need to be banked into 2009 Use Year
by July 31 2009 at the latest.

Then those 2008 UY points must be used
between DEC 1 2009 - NOV 30 2010 as you state and
2009 UY points are good during this date range as well ( no need to bank 2009 UY points if they are going to be used during this date range )

If needed DEC 2010 UY points may be borrowed into 2009 UY for a trip during DEC 1 2009 and NOV 30 2010

YA!! I got it!! I would be bubba_mouse's other half and we just wanted to double check we had this in our head right. With the UY being so close to the end of the year and our points being used in the next calendar year just was messing with our brains a bit! Thanks for the reassurance!!

Thank you!! And as being in the zone... I've been e-mailing DH at work with trip plans over the next 2 years and how we can use our points!! I'm not getting anything done today!

Some additional clarification for that Feb 10 trip:

1. I assume you will be reserving your home resort. You can call 11 months in advance of date of arrival and make a ressie for your home resort.

2. Thus, in March 2009, you should call to reserve that Feb 2010 trip. When you call in March 2009, the first thing you will want to do is bank the 12/08 points. You then make the reservation for Feb 2010. For that you will use the 12/08 points as banked points, the 12/2009 points as "current" use year points for that trip, and then borrow whatever additional points are needed from the 12/2010 use year.

My wife did some creative point math and we think we will actually use the 08 points this fall, and just use the 09 and 10 points when we go in Feb 2010. I really am beginning to like this DVC stuff it means we can go more often.

Welcome to the familiar DVC disease! We have been members for almost 12 years, and we still plan way ahead like that! We have just under 450 points, so it takes some detailed plannning!
