banked/borrowed pts and transfers

HI! I'm a DVC-member wanna be (waiting to see if we passed ROFR for a 100 pt BWV contract) and I spent this afternoon reading an old new member handbook. I wondered about this part: "Banked vacation points cannot be borrowed or transferred."

It doesn't surprise me that that they can't be borrowed. If they could, everyone would just bank all there points and borrow them if they needed them. But what about transferring?

Say I bank 100 '04 points, to '05. Then I find I don't need those points in '05 either (far-fetched, but stick with me ) I couldn't transfer them to another DVC member? I could only rent them, I guess? Or let my family use them?

The way I try to make sense of this is simple. You can move points once - it doesn't matter in which direction. Once you move them, they stay put.

Therefore, banked points can't be unbanked, or transferred, or borrowed; borrowed points can't be unborrowed, banked, yadda, yadda, yadda...

This is difficult for my BF and me. We want to join our points for vacations and both have banked points. Nothing liek making family vacations difficult...

Wildcatwmn - Couldn't you just borrow from next year's points then? Next year, you can then use what you banked this year. Maybe I'm missing something, but just because you have banked this years points does not mean you can't borrow next year's points.

[size="+0"]You can each book part of the reservation. For instance you book the first 3 nights, and your BF can book the last 3 nights. Then ask MS to link the reservations together. The only problem is when neither of you have enough points to book one more night, but if you combined your points, you have enough. HTH.[/size]

duh.... I forgot that you would have to transfer the borrowed points to put them together. Disneyberry's idae would be the way to go.

Note that you can bank transferred points. So if you are trying to use both your and BF's points, in the future it would be wise to transfer first, then bank if you aren't going to use them. This won't help you now, but it's worthwhile to keep in mind for the future, especially in your situation.
