Banked and Borrowed Reservation Question

Here is the situation. We have a 200pt contract at SSR with a September UY. We currently have 105 points banked from 2005, so this September (2006) we will have a total of 305 pts. We have planned a large family trip for this October and have booked three studios at SSR. 139pts, 118pts, and 86 pts, for a total of 343 pts. Since we only had 305 pts available this coming year we had to borrow 38 pts from our Sep 07 UY. Still with me?

I understand that the banked and borrowed points must be used during our september 06 UY. Now for my question: Are banked and/or borrowed points tied to specific reservation numbers? My parents are booked under the 118 pt reservation. Due to their health we are unsure if they will be able to take this trip. If their reservation was made up of banked or borrowed points, will those points automatically be used first for the other two reservations, or do those reservations need to be rebooked in order to ensure that those points that will expire are used first? Are points "used" at the time of booking or are they "used" at actual check-in? Are banked and borrowed always "used" first? Any information from anyone who was actually able to understand all this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, borrowed and banked points are tied to a specific reservation #. Borrowed/Banked points are NOT automatically used first, MS has to manually re-allocate them for you if a certain reservation containing B/B points is being cancelled.

Many knowledgeable MS CMs will ASK you if you wish to do it and maybe even do it for you without even asking. But MANY will not. B/B points are not automatically used first - for all DVC MS knows you may want schedule another trip that has a higher probability of being completed with those points.

ALWAYS ask to have the B/B points re-allocated to the other remaining reservations if you ever have to cancel one.

To check the status of that particular reservation and which contract and points were used, you can go to your point tracker on the member website. That will let you know which points were used for each reservation.

They can usually work it out so the points you get back are the most usable, in this case, bankable. Just make sure to ask. Also when you have banked or borrowed points, it's OK to make sure they use those first and when needed, to specify which points are to be used for which reservation.
