Bank transfer pts?

Can you bank transfered pts? I thought you can only use transfer pts in current UY.

I also beleive you can only transfer current UY pts or can you borrow pts into current UY then transfer?

You can bank transferred points. You cannot transfer points that have already been banked or borrowed.

You are correct that you can transfer only "current" use year points, but you can make that transfer before the use year begins, e.g., assume August use year; you could transfer today points that will be in the use year that begins Aug 2009.

Transferring is a final transcation in that the transfer cannot be reversed. The person who receives the points can bank them.

Yes you may bank transferred points. I have done this with points my brother transferred to me. This was a couple of years ago and these points were past the banking window for my brother, but I was able to bank them as soon as they were in my account. They retain their original use year and home resort. Also, they will not show up in your account on the DVC website.

Just got off phone from MS here is what I got from them. Transfered pts have to be current UY points they cannot be banked or transfered pts. However if they are transfered to my acct they can be banked, they retain the orignal owners UY and booking window.

Sorry to give confusion to this but seems like I have read/heard conflicting stories on the subject.

DH and I just bought into AKV as first time buyers this past weekend. I have received all of my information and have read ad nauseum the rules for borrowing and banking. I just want to be sure I am understanding transfers correctly. That would be where another DVC member would transfer (basically selling us) a certain number of their current use year points for us to use as we please, correct? Is there a thread where there are transfer points available or do I just put the word out there myself....so sorry if this is remedial.....I am blonde..

We bought AKV points but I am seeing quickly that our upcoming trip to AKV-staying in 2 studios with SV will possibly be so addictive we will need more points.....we have only ever stayed at value resorts and once at POFQ. My husband is so excited he can barely contain himself...he has been tracking our paperwork all day....sorry for the rant....we are DVC members, we are DVC members---yahooooo!!

Yes just as this is the DVC operations board there is a rent/trade board with people that post.

Unfortunately, you can not transfer those points. Do you have a trip planned during your 09 UY that is using "current" UY points? If so, see if you can have MS use the banked points and then take the 2009 UY points and bank them into 2010.

Unless you can sub them into an existing reservation, likely not much. You could try to rent them for a single studio night. Or you could match them with your other points and have many options including an RCI deposit, DVC rental, CC or DCL, etc. For just 8 points, it's likely not worth doing anything just to use the points and likely not worth trying to rent that one night. Maybe a night or 2 at DL would work for you.

One note on the original thread. Not only are transferred points bankable, the 4 month banking window does not apply. Of course this could change at some point.

Well Rats. We have no plans for anything Disney in our 2009 UY. Though, a quick trip to DL would work for us (since we're in CA). Didn't have it planned, but maybe we'll go for a couple of days in the winter. I'll have to look at that.

It is one transfer per Use Year either of points in or out.

For 2011 Use Year points you'd need to be in your 2011 Use Year so from
February 1 2011 you'd be in your 2011 UY but techinically your friends 2011 UY doesn't begin until June 1 2011 but MS ~may~ allow them to transfer in the points earlier in order for you to take advantage of the HR booking priority window of transferred points but with June 2012 travel dates that transfer doesn't need to happen earlier than June 1 2011 because 11 mos booking window for
June 2012 doesn't open until July 2011 anyway.

I don't think 2012 points can work for June 2012 reservation unless you can wait until your 2012 UY to make reservation using those points because you'd have to wait until your next Use Year which would begin on Feb 1 2012 in order to get transfer in of your friend's 2012 UY points....I don't think MS will allow their June 2012 UY points to be transferred to you in July 2011, for example, if you wished to book OKW using those points at 11 mos HR window or in November 2011 either, in order for you to take advantage of booking let's say SSR with OKW points at opening of 7 month window because you are still within your 2011 Use Year and already would have used your transfer privilege for that UY when you received your friend's 2011 points in.

This is my understanding; but others may have had different experience with MS in a situation like this - there does seem to be a bit of a gray area sometimes on what MS will allow or not allow concerning transfers.

I would not do a transfer. Just have them make part of the days in their account and you make the rest in yours. That'll be easier and quicker and if you're looking at a difficult ressie, it will be to your advantage due to the way transferred points must be handled to use the 11 month window.
