...and very nice it is too! We find it hard to get a decent "banger" in the US (though you guys excel in so many other foods, we will let you off ) but I really enjoyed this meal at the Rose & Crown! Highly recommended from an English person!!!
I've heard of bangers and mash. Have even ordered it at a pub here in Boston. But toad in a hole? That's a new one that I'll have to share with my husband. He has no English ancestry so he likes hearing the terminology for things.

Toad in the hole is sausages placed in a dish, then coated with batter (the same batter as made to make Yorkshire Pudding) and then baked in the oven. Usually served with mash, peas and onion gravy.
I dont like the batter, so Im not keen on this dish, but it is very popular here in the UK - my kids love it!!
So the sausage goes from being a banger to being a toad. Interesting.
I don't think I'd like that either. I have a strong dislike for peas. And I'm pretty picky about my mashed potatoes too. My family thinks I'm some kind of disgrace to my English heritage or something.
Oh if we can make further suggestions to a british menu can we have, rarebit, hotpot, cream tea, haggis and dumplings?
(that should confuse 'em for a bit )

I've heard of rarebit and haggis and dumplings, although I don't think I could tell you what they are. If I had to guess, I'd say that hotpot is either tea or coffee. And cream tea...I'd say tea with milk or cream.
Hotpot is a casserole or stew. Usually made with lamb or beef and veggies in a savoury gravy, topped with sliced potatoes.
Cream tea is usually scones (similar to what Americans call "biscuits" -the type you serve with gravy????!!!!) but sweet. They are sliced in half and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam and a pot of tea on the side.
Welsh Rarebit is basically cheese on toast!!
Dumplings are hideous things made from "suet" which is an animal fat, and then baked in with a casserole. Horrid, I hate them!! Naturally enough, being bad for them, my kids love these as well!

No haggis, thanks.. no rarebit either (I can taste too much of the mustard, yeah?) I could really go for some jaffa cakes, though... and some walkers smoky bacon, irn-bru and (oooh) a boost bar...
