Ban The Bag Check!!!!

Please stop mentionein gmetal detectors, I cringe at the thought of standing in line like at the airport while they make people take off their shoes, undo belts, empty pockets, remove babies from strollers and fold it up to pass through an xray machine, then call more people out to the side while they wand you..... It would seriously cut back on the number of trips I go on because of the hassel factor.

So stop saying MD, they may be reading....

Actually, the metal detectors used at Six Flags don't require you to take off your shoes or fold up your stroller. They're the walk through kind and you're given a little bin to put your pocket stuff in. You hand that through, hand through any bags you have, then walk through yourself. If anything sets off the detector, then you're directed to a station where they do a more thorough check. Very easy-breazy!

The issue is frustrating, but necessary. As an airline Employee, security hits home in importance a whole lot more now than it did 5 1/2 years ago...

Half of the reason the lines take so long is because Guests are unprepared and fumbling around. I always approach the bag check with my bag wide open, and I remove my sweatshirt from the bag so that they can just glance in quickly. It's really not that big of a deal if we all work together to make it efficient. Reach over and unzip your kids bags, unzip all the pockets in your bag/cooler/whatever while you're waiting. No biggie.

Sometimes I'm absolutely amazed at how much stuff families are willing to drag around with them.

If wishes were horses then beggars would ride...

Yes, I wish we could go back to a safer time. A time where going to the happiest place on earth didn't require going through a bag search. But that is not the time we live in.

So many post have said that security doesn't look beneath the top layer of the purse or backpack. I have not found this to be true. Most of the security lines I've gone through the CM has a long metal stick that he/she uses to push things around and a flashlight to see inside. I have been asked to open all zippers including the one on the back of the fanny pack.

I normally just bring a backpack now. Inside I'll have our rain ponchos, video camera, glass case. Before getting in the bag check line I pull everything out, put the camera around my neck, hold the glass case and ponchos and open the zipper that has a pack of kleenex in it and some chapstick. Takes the security guy less than 2 secs and I'm on my way. What holds up the line are the people who bring everything including the kitchen sink with them.:rotfl2: I often wonder why people need to bring soooooo much with them.

With respect, I think you're fooling yourself. They do not have metal detectors, they don't pat anyone down, they don't check pockets. You could carry in all sorts of weapons and "ruin the magic" if you were so inclined, unfortunately.

The bag checks are annoying and perfunctory -- they serve no useful purpose. Half the time the guards don't even look in my bag, for cryin' out loud. :rolleyes1

I had a friend stopped and asked to raise the bottom of his shirt, because they could tell something was under it, and they didn't know what. It was only his cell phone. But they are looking for things, and they could be looking as much at your behavior than what you are carrying (kind of like they do in the airport lines).

I would rather they would do something than nothing. I don't have anything against them installing metal detectors, if it comes to that, so long as no one else can grab my stuff as I go through.

If someone wanted to carry a gun, knife, bomb or any other number of harmful things they could put it on their person and skip the security check altogether!

Of the millions of bags that pass through security I wonder how many actually have any of these things in them? OTOH, I wonder how many guests walk right in with one of these things in their pockets? I'm sure if someone wanted to bring a knife, for example, into the parks they would not put it in a bag now would they?

Why are you carrying a knife into Disney :confused3

I have a pocket knife in my pocket 7 days a week along with chapstick, a pen, car keys, and a wallet. I don't use chapstick every day, but when I need it, I have it too.

Or maybe it's so I can protect Disney from the knife wielding terrorists:lmao:
