I graduated from Bama in 1992 and was lucky enough to be in college in Tuscaloosa while we were good and won a National Championship under Coach Gene Stallings. Beating Auburn, TN, and LSU happened regularly. That's something the students at Bama haven't seen since then.

Nick Saban is the 3rd currently active SEC head coach to leave one SEC school and end up head coach at a SEC rival (Tubberville Ole Miss to Auburn, Saban LSU to Bama, and Spurrier FL to SC). Saban said he and his wife totally regretted leaving LSU, and his heart is in college football. The Miami Dolphins owner, Wayne Huizenga, gave Saban his blessing to take the job at Bama this morning at Saban's home. Saban and his wife are leaving this afternoon for Tuscaloosa as recruiting opens back up this Friday.

I just hope Saban can do the same amazing things at Bama as he did in LSU. I wouldn't mind another National Championship. Should definitely make the LSU/Bama game in Tuscaloosa even more interesting. Hopefully, this is the beginning of great things at Bama again!

Don't get too attached to him. I wouldn't expect him to last more than 3 years based on his resume. The bitter LSU alum is coming out of me right now. At least our current coach is doing much better than expected and we made it to a BCS game again.

I agree with you on time-line. And I do understand how the LSU fans feel about Saban (another reason the LSU/Bama game should be even more interesting). We had Franchione who Bama liked, and he SWORE he wasn't leaving. Turned around and left for Texas A&M without even telling the players. I always pull for A&M's opponent now. So, I think the Bama fans will expect a lot of resentment for him from LSU (and deserved).

But, on a very happy note for Bama, this is a HUGE plus for us getting a highly touted coach with great name recognition!!!

I have some friends that are major bama fans, the only flaw in all this is whether or not the LSU national championship win was maybe just a fluke? Maybe maybe not. But I'm sure he's a decent coach either way. But it will be fun to watch the bama faithful turn on him if he doesn't win within 2 years. Short leash their in bama you know. Well see.

If it would work, someone would try it! The new addition to Bryant-Denny stadium in Tuscaloosa is amazing. They have larger than life bronze statues of all the coaches who have won National Championships at Bama. My heart lies in Tuscaloosa!

Can I stay in Tuscaloosa when I go get it? Where in MS are you? I grew up in the Delta in Greenville. My parents are in Olive Branch now, and my brother is in Jackson. SIL 1 is from Philadelphia and SIL2 from Canton.

I liked Coach Shula, and I wish the higher ups had given him more of a chance. A little eye candy for the women isn't bad either! But since they did fire him, I am very happy with them getting Saban. I miss Coach Stallings a lot. He was there my entire college career and is friends with my FIL. He and his family are all well on the Ranch in TX.
