Baltic Ports on your own

We tipped in local currency, thinking that if someone came to US and tipped me with foreign currency I would have to go to a certain bank or airport to exchange. Now admittedly I do not live in a coastal city where there are a large number of foreign tourists however I see these tourists using dollars when in Orlando so perhaps they may appreciate the same. We did see some kiosks or stands in markets where they posted US dollars but then I found myself trying to figure out how much more it was at their exchange rate.

Hello, I will be doing the Baltic cruise this July and want to know how far from the bus stop is Abba Museum. I want to go there after my port adventure. Thanks

We went there it's in my blog, http://torussiawithmickeybars.blogspot.co.uk/

Now firstly the cruise ships can dock in two places, the cruise port to the north east of the city, and the actual city centre dock. In 2010 the Magic docked to the north east, and in 2015 the city centre.

Abba was actually directly opposite us, as the crow flys, but....it's all water in between us. So you had to go right around.

We went by taxi it took 25 mins in heavy traffic, it didn't cost a lot, say 30 euros. Care the traffic on the route us often gridlocked we got stuck at one junction for a long time.

Maps

We docked at the city dock, directly opposite the Island where Abba is, there us a water taxi but it doesn't end close to the Magic.image.jpeg

This expanded map shows the main cruise port to the north east.

Abba was great, pre book the tickets for a cost saving and a time slot to go in, it's very popular. Taxis available outside but the time back is deceptive.

Now there buses but taxis are the only option. The Nagic docked far right at the city dock in 2015 and you can see a long dock to the left, the buses stopped far left. At the north east dock the HOHO stops outside.

We are on the upcoming 7/10 Baltic cruise. Other than St. Petersberg (booked with Anastasia) and Berlin (DCL port adventure), we've decided to do Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallinn on our own to save a little money.

Does anyone know the specific locations where the Magic will be docking? I am hoping we will be close to the main attractions at each of these ports.

I've seen posts about a DCL shuttle into the center of town. Will they have shuttles for the 7/10 cruise?

Does anyone have suggestions for an itinerary in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Tallinn? We are two adults and two teenagers. I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed trying to plan all of this on my own.

Lots and lots of detail on my trip report blog, we did private tours in each port and went with Anastasia for the second time in 2015. That was Anastasias most ambitious St Petersburg tour ever, I gave photos, navigators, menus, details of docks on the blog.

We did private tours in every port.

Do you find that it makes a difference to tip in US currency? Is that something that is really appreciated?
I tipped in US cash for the excursion in St Petersburg. Mind you they do ask for cash to be in crisp, new US bills which I was able to get at the bank before I left. I paid for both the tour and then had separate envelopes for the tips. They really do appreciate it. As I said before, I used SPBtours and they pretty well lay out what to do on the website so there was no second guessing. Every other port, we toured around on our own so there was no need to tip. Everywhere we went on the Baltic cruise we could have used Euros, but chose to use our credit cards. I always had a few Euros, just in case.

We tipped in Russia in the prefered Russain roubles, Dollars and euros have to be crisp as you say, and not too high or too low denomination to be accepted there. Tourist sites accept $ and Euros but local roubles are best. Do not use your cards there unless with the firm you book a private tour with like http://anastasia.travel/

Yes, traffic it's what I am afraid of.
