I've read the a/c is on motion sensors, Use a balloon so your room stays the temp you want. My question- Where can I buy a balloon from that's NOT in one of the parks? Are they available anywhere near boardwalk? In resorts gift shop? Thanks

We've never had an issue with our rooms being the perfect temp when we come in - and we've never used a balloon. Besides, no one moves around at night and the a/c doesn't shut off. So I'm not sure how accurate the motion sensor theory is.

Um yes in fact they are motion sensored and do cut off after about 15 minutes. There is an online trick to bypass the automation, but i dont try that one. The balloon trick does in fact work just fine. I have used it at CBR/POR/and POP.

So you hop up and run around every 15 minutes during the night?

I believe they've fixed this issue. We've had no issues with AC cutting off in the middle of the night for years.

No we set up things to keep the motion sensor entertained. But that is a funny idea. But in all seriousness its not hard to look at the thermostat and see that it is controlled. Have you actually stayed recently at a resort? Maybe you're a heavy sleeper? You can very easily go outside this board to see postings on the matter and how some can reprogram the thermostats.

Just not true. We just got back yesterday from a week at POR. No a/c motion sensors at all. Maybe in the bathroom with the fan but not the air. Room stayed perfect all week whether we were in the room or not.

Wow, I never knew this! But we've only gone in the winter, not much need for ac or heat in florida that time of year, we only run it to keep the room from feeling stuffy and to muffle the hotel noise, I wouldn't notice or care whether it shut off after 15 minutes. I'm making a mental note about this in case we ever go in the warmer months.

I've always had just ONE question about all this....

Where is the sensor?

We always stay at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge. Last 4 trips, I've looked around a LOT for something (anything) that has slots, a little window with plastic... SOMETHING that would allow a motion sensor to do it's job. Still can't find one :(.

Just got back from POFQ last week--and it was HOT!!! Room was perfectly cool after every day at the park and sleeping all night. Three years in a row and never an issue. Never had an issue at Pop, ASMo, or ASSp either.

Believe me--I would have noticed if the room got hot at night! And we always go in August when it's hotter than the surface of the sun. I would hate walking into a hot room after a scorching day at the parks. Luckily, we never did!

Was just at WL a week ago.

I left the balcony door open all night (was 80s all night) and set thermostat to 65 to make up for it.

Room was froze.

Slept the next night with door shut and air on 70....again, slept comfy with no issues.

The AC was definitely on all night. Also, when i left for a park I let the AC on quite cold and came back and it was very cold.

I haven't run into this problem here at Disney, in fact I usually end up coming back to a CBR room that is so cold its condensed on the window.

The only place I've noticed the motion sensors are hotels outside of Disney, especially in Las Vegas, and those the second the door opens you hear the click of the A/C kicking in. Sadly I haven't figured out how to bypass those yet.

I have seen those too. Yet I have also read that they have fixed that problem and balloons are no longer needed.

We just spent 18 days in DW at Pop and The Beach Club. Both rooms were super icy cold, even in the middle of the night. :thumbsup2 No need for a balloon. :)

Thanks for the info Disneylover99! Now I know to pack my warmer sleepwear as my travel partner (my nephew) likes to sleep in a freezer. :P One year I actually wore my fleece hoodie to bed!

I wear my thick sweater, long pants, and wool socks to bed every night in August at Disney. I'm not even exaggerating.
