We are taking our first trip to Disney and are staying at the Polynesian. We have 3 kids, ages 6, 3, and 1. We have booked a lagoon view room and requested the Tahiti longhouse. My question is...which do you think is better, a balcony or patio. I am sure the patio is much more convenient with the kids, but can you see the castle from the 1st floor.

Thank you for your help.

Sandy

I always go for the balcony at the Poly. I love sitting on it and watching everything. If I sit in a chair I am not noticed by the people I am watching, which I think on a patio would not be possible. My kids are 9 and 11 and they love the view from the balcony.

If you've booked Tahiti lagoon view, then you'll see the MK from every floor. If your children are small, perhaps a patio is best.

We had a great time, stayed for 8 days and thought the Poly was very nice. The Balcony is safe and the best view. We were on the 3rd floor, I believe room 3020. Let me know if you have any questions - I just returned May 8th.

P.S. Did you book the Luau?

We prefer a balcony mainly for privacy. I can sit out there and just enjoy the quiet and scenery without people walking by, although the lagoon side is probably less traveled.

Definately balcony. We had a patio, and its not a big deal. It was wierd sitting out there with people walking down the sidewalks only seperated by a bush. I would definately pick the balcony. All the patio does is give you another exit if you want to cut through the shrubbery.

Of course, I'm just comparing. Everything is wonderful at the Polynesian.

Why am I always the odd man out? I actually prefer the patio. It was really convenient to just walk out the door to the beach. My DSs loved watching the ducks and we sat on the patio every night and watched the EWP and the fireworks. Also, since my youngest DS is a big thrill seeker, it was nice not to worry about him trying bungee-jumping without the bungee!

Tough call..... we stayed at Fiji in September and had a patio room and it was perfect because it faced the luau cove with no one walking by. The grandkids loved feeding the ducks and the view was beautiful. We are going again this September and I am wondering the same thing. Should we ask for a balcony if we are in another building??? I really don't want to sit outside with people walking by so close. Let me know what you decide.
Thanks,
Disnemimi

One thing to watch - some of the second floor rooms do not have balconies. I believe the buildings on the luau side.

Thank you for all your responses. I think we will stick with our request for a balcony, for the privacy. I think people walking by would bother us.

I didn't book the Luau b/c I thought my kids might be too young to sit through the whole thing. Maybe we will do it our next trip.
