I have two DS's one will be 4 and the other 2 when I am planning to cruise. My question is how are balconies 'built' I can not really tell from pictures. Do the railings tilt in so they can be climbed on?

My fear is that my jungle gym boys will start to climb on the railings.

Do the doors to the balcony have child proof locks or a lock high where it can not be reached. Being a little afraid of heights my fear is them climbing up and falling overboard !!!

Thanks for the help.

the balcony doors close/lock in a way that no 2 or 4 year old would be able to manage to open it themselves.

I don't know about the balconies on the verandahs (we do the Navigator's Verandah), but every place on the ship where I've seen a balcony it's had plexiglass on the inside/outside to prevent kids from getting into trouble.

I don't think 2 and 4 year olds should have any problems (we didn't have any problem when our daughter was 3) - just don't leave the balcony door open and a chair/table near the railing! I haven't ever heard of any going overboard - though there always needs to be a first!

A 4 year old will not be able to open the door lock by himself, and even if he did, there are no "railings" for him to climb on the veranda. There is a plexigalss shield that covers the interior of the veranda barrier to prevent what you (and all parents) fear.

i have been on the magic twice with both varandas metal and plexi-glass i would say to make sure you are allways allways out there with your kids you know stuff happens there are chairs on the varandas so better safe then sorry
