Balancing requesting a non-home resort at 7 months with having any resort....

I hope I worded that right....

We are planning a trip in 2012 for October. It is for one of my kid's birthdays and we asked for top and 2nd choice resort. Top choice was BLT and second choice was AKL, which is our home resort.

My question is--how do you do it, so that we have SOMETHING for the time we want.

I.e.--if I use my points at 11 months to snag my home resort, I now have no points for my BLT request at 7 months. Can I request and if I Can get it, cancel simultaneously the AKL resort if I got BLT.

I won't be heartbroken either way as my child is aware that we aren't asking for our home resort and are at the mercy of availability. I just need to get the logistics straight in my had so that we can have her second choice if her first choice isn't available.

Clear as mud, right? Hopefully, you understand what I am trying to ask and if not--well...I have over a year to figure it out.

Make the reservation for your home resort at 11 months. Then when your 7 month opens, call MS and see if there is availability for what you want at BLT. If there is, MS will-cancel the AKV reservation and use the points for the BLT reservation. If there isn't availability, you can waitlist for it. If the waitlist comes through, MS will cancel the AKV reservation and use the points for your BLT reservation.

If they don't have all the nights available at your first and second choice, book the nights that they do have available, then waitlist the other nights. Call back often to check on the waitlist.

eh...

the OP won't have a problem getting AKV at 11 months.

if you book 7 nights and at 7 months out, only the 3 nights in the middle are available at BLT, i can't say i'd recommend risking having to move twice during your vacation. if it's the first or last 3-4 nights, and you'd only have to move once, i'd take the chance and waitlist BLT for the remaining nights.
