My husband id dying to have this for dinner and I am not sure how to make it. I know he likes it with saltines on the top...anyone able to help?

This is a favorite in our family although it doesn't have cracker crumbs on top.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cook elbow macaroni as package directs. Drain and rinse with cold water

Lightly grease a 9x13 inch glass dish.

Grate one pound of extra sharp cheese. Cover bottom of dish with a layer of macaroni, then grated cheese, and season with salt, pepper, and dried mustard. Repeat. Pour milk equally over the top layer until it comes about half way up the side of the dish.

Bake for about one hour or until golden brown and bubbly. Yum!!

I do a white sauce first......which is a big dollop of maragine and flour mixed to make a paste sort of
add milk ....maybe two cups or so......
slowly heat up and stir to get the lumps out......
then add extra sharp cheddar cheese and stir until it is mixed in too
boiled macaroni in a big casserole dish
pour it over the top of the macaroni and mix it together

then in a bowl .....two tablespoons of margarine and some italian bread crumps to mix up.....then drop on top of the casserole and bake for a half hour ......

ok, this is probabally a heart atack in a casserole dish but it is the best mac and cheese-ever!

I measure nothing so here's the best I can do.

elbow mac- 2 boxes ( I always freeze some)
Velvetta- 1/2 big block
2 cups cheddar cheese
2cup mozz cheese
2 cups jack cheese
1 stick butter
1/4 cup flour
half and half -fill to about half way up the dish

Bake until golden brown on top and enjoy!!!!!

This is my mother's recipe. There are no measurements. Just combine ingredients until it looks the right consitancy. Feel free to use fat free milk and sour cream. The cheese melts better if you at least use reduced fat cheese instead of the fat free substitutes.

Cook elbow macaroni and 1 chopped onion. Drain. Stir in a liberal amount of sour cream until it's melted and coating the macaroni. Add grated cheddar, and stir until well mixed. Add milk (you don't want it to be too dry especially if you are putting it in the oven). Season with salt, pepper, onion powder, etc. Sometimes we eat it at this point instead of heating up the house with the oven or you can bake it at 350. EASY! And people always rave about it.
