Baja coast and rain

Hi!
If there’s rain on the Baja coast will Disney sail farther away from the coast to miss the rain for a sea day? In a nutshell, how close do they follow the coastline? Cheers!

Any cruise ship will position itself to provide guests the best weather possible. This is more doable if you're on a shorter cruise (Ensenada only) than a longer cruise (Cabo and beyond).

Past Ensenada, rain is rare during the winter/spring months. If you're on the late April cruise, there's a stronger chance for rain between SD & Ensenada but not that strong and I wouldn't expect it. If you're on the mid-March cruise, anything goes these days but it's generally past our rainy season.

We did the 7 Night Mex Riviera in Feb '23. The weather was horrible. Much rain, cold and the absolutely most a-typical SoCal weather to be found (DW is SD born and bred; we met there when I was stationed in SD). We did the usual Baja course to Cabo on the Wonder and shoved through the weather. The first few days were fairly miserable outside - so we headed to the bar! Cabo was nice and clear, though a bit cool. Mazatlán and Puerto Vallarta were fabulous. On the way back, weather didn't suck again until north of Cabo. Point is, its' a long haul and the Captain didn't have a lot of time for maneuvering the ship to avoid weather.

Headed north, the stretch between Cabo and SD/LA is always chilly, no matter what time of year.

Not necessarily. Int'l waters is a big deal for warships, fishing/commercial (which extends out to 200 NM) and others (e.g. offshore drilling). For passenger vessels like cruise ships, course is determined by safe navigation and weather

Not applicable to Disney, but for cruiselines with casinos, don't they have to be in international waters to open the casino?

And the shops - which is applicable to Disney.

That's always what I thought, but I'm not sure I have any specific info to back that up, so it might have just been an assumption I made at one point (and then just assumed it was fact).

A quick Google search indicates that once a ship is in international waters, it no longer has to follow the laws of the country it departed from, but instead follows the laws of the country of the ship's flag (said in a less awkward way, the country the ship is registered in), which for DCL would be the Bahamas. I'm guessing that's why shops/casinos/etc. open once ships are in in international waters, because Bahamian laws are likely much looser than US ones.

For shops I think it’s also a sales tax question. If you sell goods in a country there would be some sort of sales tax in many cases. That’s the thing with the limit of alcohol sales while in port at Grand Cayman.

THANKS! Just got off the ship yesterday! Originally I was concerned with 3/23 and 3/24, but the original system didn't materialize over the water and coast as expected. Phew! Yesterday morning in San Diego was a different story ! Luckily it cleared by 1:30 and we had a wonderful afternoon outside! Checked out the Balboa Museums in the morning which was PERFECT for a rainy morning!
