We have stayed at Bahama Bay about 5 times so far. It is located southwest of Disney - south of 192 and just east of 27, perhaps 5 miles from Disney property (note: shortcut via Westside Road). It has 2 and 3 bedroom condos, nice landscaping, pools, hot tubs, a small shop, and a restaurant. The condos are very large, with a full kitchen, 2 bathrooms, and washer/dryer in each unit. Each unit has a patio or deck, or two.
When we first visited in about 2004 the units were nearly new, and in excellent condition. Our last visit was a couple years ago and we found some furniture and carpet to be a little worn, but still okay. Management has been recently taken over by Wyndham, so it's possible that some refurbishing has taken place. Each unit is individually owned. Some can be rented through Wyndham, while others are rented through VRBO, etc. Initially all units had the same furniture and decorations, but this seems to have changed and many owners have redecorated.
The buildings are 3 stories high, with exterior stairs. There are no elevators, so if someone in your group has trouble with stairs you should get a ground floor unit.
The largest units are the "Grand Bahama", which is huge at 1,700 sq ft. They have 3 bedrooms, and a giant master bath. I believe these are always located on the top floor.
Prices are very reasonable, typically under $100/night. Be aware there is a resort fee and a cleaning fee. Sometimes they have specials... rent N nights, get one free. We just booked a 30% off special for a week in 2/2014. This brought our total for 8 nights in the largest unit to $800, including all taxes and fees.
There is a super Walmart about 1 mile north of the resort on 27. You will want to stop there to stock up the condo for your visit.
Overall, in our experience Bahama Bay offers a great value with spacious accommodations, beautiful grounds, nice pools, and a reasonable distance from Disney. Renting an equivalent place on Disney property would cost 5-10X more.
