Bahama Bay Resort

I stayed here in 2008 and liked it very much. However it is in Davenport and far from EVERYWHERE! You are talking at least a 30 minute drive to WDW and that is if traffic is good:headache:.

Thanks! That is what the lady on the phone told me but their site says something different (10 mins I think). I'll look elsewhere!

I am just up the road from BB and now with westside open you have several options to get to Disney-it usually doesn't take us any more than 20 mins to get where we want to go-it is only 8 miles away after all-I have stayed onsite and waited longer for hotel buses than it takes to drive back home.
There are now more restaurants on HWY27 opening and we also have Wal Mart and Publix within 1 mile.10mins is pushing it a biit but IMO if the unit suits your family and budget go for it it is not in the back of beyond.

WOW, $69, is a great deal there. I agree with Jannyanns that it is not that far to Disney and if you like the place and the price is right go for it.

Google map "Bahama Bay Davenport Fl." and do Satellite view. You will get a great picture of the resort. If you want "quick to Disney" turn left out the entrance and then left on Westside road up to Hwy 192. Go a short distance to toll 429 north and go a mile or so on the toll to the Disney entrance by Coronado Springs and Animal Kingdom. Toll will be about 25 cents or so. I would guess you will be on Disney property in close to 10 minutes. Also and Janny says, lots of new shopping on Westside before you get to 192. This keeps you off Hwy 27 which is very busy and eliminates the possible traffic backups on 192 farther east. Lots of good places to eat farther east on 192. For eating ideas let us know if you want some recommendations.

In my opinion, BBay is one of the most colorful, "Florida" resorts in the whole area. Each building is a soft tropical color and the landscaping is very nice.
If I was looking to stay in the area year round instead of 3 months, and was thinking condo BBay would be at the top of my list.

Enjoy...Ted

Thanks guys! I decided to go with Buena Vista Palace. I got a rate of just $10 more a night average. Plus its right there :)

We stayed there 3 years ago during March Break and did not like the resort. The walls and floors are very thin and the noise was terrible. When we complained to security about the family above us allowing their children to bounce from the beds to the floor every night until 2 am, security was not helpful! Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor. They are very mixed! If you are going for a great deal, you will have to insist on the top floor of the condos, to reduce the noise. The pools were green and pool staff were non existent. Count on at least a 30 minute drive to WDW during peak times, sometimes more if there is traffic or an accident. Be really careful on 27. It is a haven for accidents. It has few traffic lights and you must cross into traffic to leave your resort. I was extremely disappointed in this resort and would not recommend it to anyone. Pay the extra and stay at Windsor Hills! You will not be sorry! :hippie:

You no longer have to go to 27 to get to the parks as there is a back way open now for a while -Westside Blvd which takes you to 192 .Also there are now traffic lights at the junction of Florence Villa Grove Road and 27 which make exiting onto 27 much easier.

Is there anything you did not like about it? Thanks.

Sorry, didn't see your post until now! It is 2 years since we stayed here and I actually loved the units and the atmosphere etc, we were very happy here but only stayed there for 3 nights until moving into to our own villa (it was rented out the first 3 nights of our holiday). A problem for us was that if you had a villa above the ground floor there was no elevator so you had to carry your luggage up the stairs and as two of us have heart conditions and my mum has prolapsed spinal discs we couldn't do this and the staff refused to help us with our luggage despite us explaining our problems and them putting us on the top floor. After trying to get the luggage up (bearing in mind we were staying in florida for two weeks!) we realised we couldn't and went back to check-in who, grudgingly, let us have a ground-floor room (after initially saying they didn't have any:rolleyes:). On the plus side we learned that if we ever had to do similar in the future, we would just pack an smaller bag for the 3 nights and take that into the hotel/villa.

We didn't have problems with noise but when we initially got put on the top floor and we were trying to get our luggage up, another English family saw us and asked if they could help us up. When we explained we had been put on the top floor they said, in their opinion, that was the best place to stay as you don't have anyone above you. They had trouble with noise (there were lots of cheerleaders at the resort as there was a competition at WDW) but as I say we didn't. And I am a light sleeper! Our biggest problem was, as I said previously, the location. We don't just do WDW we go to the Florida Mall, I-Drive, all over the place and it just seemed far from everywhere. We ended up late for church because the traffic was so busy and as I say it did take us 30 mins to get to WDW although I must say my Dad did not take to the toll road (don't know why!). It took ages to get there after landing at the airport etc. But I did REALLY like the units and the resort, I would stay there again, but my Dad wouldn't. So, it really is a personal thing.
