Bags on Rides (with and without Lockers)

You can ride the locker rides with whatever fits in your pockets. Had a phone and small camera in mine, 'twas no problem.

Yeah, you can't have anything in your pockets.

Yes, lanyards are fine for the metal detector rides, but not the ones with phones as phones aren’t allowed on those two rides. We just tuck ours into our tops as they can fly off.

Our lanyards only fit cards...Room key and AP.......the pouch is clear plastic and just slightly larger than the cards. And we don’t carry a phone with us so don’t have to worry about that.....

As @schumigirl said yes, but I also wanted to add that if you have something as much as a wallet with a zipper they'll make you unzip it.

Now while you can still get in the non-bag line with a wallet like that, however it's just something to add as when I had my wallet that did that, most of the time they just let my wallet go, but I've had a few people that still made me unzip it prior to walking through the scanner. Which still doesn't make sense to me since it's supposedly going through an airport security-like scan device anyway.

How long a wait would we roughly have if we were arriving at the gates about 30 minutes before either Early Entry or Regular Opening, and having to use the bag-check line? I know that it will vary wildly, but just a ball-park figure? It will be midweek in late May, if that makes any difference? It’s our first visit, so I really haven’t got a clue about anything Universal!

I'm assuming you're going to be parking the car (or at least paying for parking) then an hour beforehand, or 45 minutes-ish? If that's the case, from my experience the crowd is typically not that bad prior to opening, especially if you're doing it prior to EE, as typically that is what I used to do, however it's been a couple of years for me so it might be different, so someone else might be better to judge. However, for me, it didn't seem to get crowded and claustrophobic to me until it was after opening.

Also, I typically do not do the bag line, but the few times I did, it would take about 10-15 minutes, but might be busier if it's May. However, like I said if you arrive that early, you'll probably not really wait at all.

Plus we’re travelling from the UK, so our body-clocks will be five hours ahead for the first couple of days or so - We’ll no doubt be up extra early, but will probably have to head back to the hotel we’ll before the parks close as we’ve got 6 & 8 year old kids. Will hopefully be able to catch the night-time shows towards the end of our stay!

Yeah, don't worry about the bag check timing then if you're staying at the Hard Rock. You can walk to the Universal gate and they have a security person before you officially get into the City Walk area. However, last time I was there, it was a few individuals of security and they're only checking hotel guests, so you'll more than likely either be the only one's there when they check, or perhaps maybe a few people at most.
