went to Kroger this morning

bag girl is a chatty cathy

conversation:

her
"thats a nice purse, you should use it Valentines Day"
(purse is a D&B, the black one with multi color hearts on it)

me
"thanks, but I use it year round, cost too much to just use in February"

her
"let me guess, around $50"

me
"triple that" (hey :confused3 she had the balls to ask)

her
"seventy dollars?" :sad2:

Thank goodness she was the bag girl and not the cashier

Thankfully she's not a cashier! :rotfl2: I'm trying to figure out her reasoning...not easy to do. Maybe she was thinking 1/3 more instead of multiplying by 3, so adding $20, which is not 1/3, but hey, who's picky? :rotfl: How funny and what nerve to ask!

Maybe she thought "triple" meand adding 30 and she was trying to add 30 to 50 and came up short??? Who knows.

People are so rude! Whenever anyone asks me what something cost I tell them that I don't know, it was a gift. :)

Do you think that would work when people ask me what my house cost? I don't know, it was a gift... :teeth:

She just might not be very bright. I feel sorry for people like that. I am a teacher and I have a few kids who are just very low. One of them said "a rock" when I asked her for a living organism. :guilty:

You have to wonder what's to become of them...I guess a bagger would be a job they could do. But I feel sorry for them - especially because people make fun of them.

Sorry, JMO.

Yes, it does! I've used it for that, too!

Someone even said they could look up in records what we paid for it! I said that only counts the land, the house was put together by different contractors, but please to let me know when they find out what the land cost, as I had no idea, it being a gift from my parents and all. :) I can just see them gossiping about how we didn't pay for our house, but had mommy and daddy pay it! :rotfl2:

People are so flippin rude sometimes!

Wow. She didn't sound like she was the brightest cookie in the batch, now did she?!

You could have gotten a worse answer... :rotfl:

Sounds like a conversation I might have with one of the baggers at my store.

They hire mentally handicapped/challenged people through one of the local programs. Many times you wouldn't even know there was a problem, after all, they look *normal*. But, you know something is off when they start talking. Their conversations can be a bit odd.

They aren't known for their social skills, but are mostly sweet natured people who mean no harm. They just do their best to fit in with what knowledge they have.

Unfortunately, they're easy targets for many people.

yes, nearly all the grocery store baggers around here are hired through a local social service agency which serves the disabled. The inability to do Math does not necessarily make one "not so bright."

Our baggers are of average intelligence, or at least sure seem to be. But I totally agree that if that's not the case, that's a totally different story. Usually we don't even have baggers and the cashier bags. It's only when it's crowded and only at some registers.

Most of the baggers at my local Publix are hired through a social agency. Some are mentally challenged, and I suspect others are reformed drug users, etc.

One bagger is so sweet, and always asks after DM, tells me how her first apartment is coming along, etc. I can see that many people become impatient with her, but I would rather she be out earning a living, and some self respect, rather than sitting around somewhere, collecting government money.

Of course, today she put two bottles of wine in a paper bag sideways, so when I lifted some other groceries out, they (still in the bag) rolled off the counter and broke.

Our Publix does the same. Quite a few have Down's syndrome and I enjoy talking with them.

well, my apologies if thats the case. Maybe its something new at this Kroger.
I have been going there for many years and never noticed the baggers being
'challenged' before.

All of our baggers at the local Kroger are mentally challenged. They are so sweet and helpful!

Is there a chance that your young lady was challenged and not just in math? :confused3

The cashiers and bag boys around here are mostly people without any sort of mental defect or drug problem.

Guy at the gas station couldn't make change from a $5 bill. He wasn't ********, didn't have Down's, he was just plain stupid. Even when I told him what the change should be, he looked at me like he was trying to figure out if I was putting one over on him. :faint:

At least these folks are working and trying to pull their weight in society. I feel bad for these folks. "There but for the grace of God go I"

Well if by "stupid" you mean low IQ, then he very well could have been "********" by it's clinical definition.

There are many types of mental disabilities and not all of them carry physical markers.

Yep, mine has quite a few, one that has been there for 5 weekends, is very Chatty! :rolleyes1 He gets on ONE subject and talks to ALL the Customers about that ONE subject.....however, he is as sweet as can be, and has a great sense of Humor! ;) (I just wish he would bag more than he talks). :teeth:
