All flights (per bag/each way)
1st bag. 2nd bag. 3rd bag 4-9 bag
$25 $35 $125 $200

I am thinking each person has a 1st bag $25 fee, not the first person two bags at $35 for the total? Correct?

We are taking one bag, but may return with two :rolleyes1

Correct. If 1 person is traveling, they pay 25 for the first bag and 35 for the second bag, for a total of $60.

If 2 or more people are traveling and each has 1 bag, it is $25 per person.

I do not like this per bag fee :crazy2:
So should we just bring one big bag with everyone's stuff in it? Does anyone one know the dimensions for carry-ons?

Be sure to watch the 50 pound limit, that will hit you even harder if you go over ($90).

What about the carry on 22" with personal item? I saw they will gate check it for free. We each were going to carry one. If not then we wil have to pack two checked bags.

You need to be cautious when it comes to putting everything into carry on bags. Overhead space is very precious now, and most flights I've been on lately there hasn't been enough room for everyone to have a bag in the overhead compartment. Those bags either get gate checked, where you have to pick it up on the jetway at your next stop, or checked thru and you have to claim them at baggage claim.

Anything valuable needs to go into your personal item bag, that will go under your seat. You don't want to be gate checking a bag that has a tablet or camera or meds in it.

Airlines will gate check for free if they run out or anticipate running out of overhead space. But, IMO, "gate checking" a carryon is defeating the purpose of the carry on.

The reason to have a carryon (preferably with a change of clothes/anything you need for the first 24 hours) is in case you either get stranded somewhere or the airline "misplaces" your checked luggage. An added benefit if you can get everything for your trip in a carryon, there's no waiting at baggage claim at your destination. You get off the plane and head off.

Your personal item (under the seat) should have all electronics, valuables, and anything you need during the flight.

Personally, I like gate checking carry on bags. Usually I use them because I don't want to overpack our big bags & I don't want to pay for a 2nd bag. It also helps keep me organized. Let's say we're going to WDW for 2 days prior to a 7 nt cruise. I can pack the WDW clothes separately in a carry on bag and I don't have to open our cruise bags at all. It also allows us to pack up the dirty clothes for our 2 day stay and not mix them with clean stuff.

The only hassle is that I have to deal with it through security and wheeling it to the gate. I've never had to retrieve it on the jetway at our destination; it always comes through as if I checked it curbside. Worth it to me: $25 to check a big bag vs. $0 for a smaller bag. :thumbsup2

I would not recommend the "plan to gate check'. Method. On most airlines there is much less sophisticated tracking used on these bags. So if they get lost it is much harder for them to find youn

That's it! Exactly our plans. We have to gate check a transport chair. I will carry all the valuables and electronics in my pack pack to put under the seat. The only concern I have if they lose dd Halloween party outfit so mayb keep that in a personel tote carry on for her. Everyone else is sending one suitcase through checked bags.

Can you elaborate?
I've always been given a regular luggage tag on USAirways. Maybe since we fly non stop, it's less likely to get lost. If anything I feel better about it since I KNOW it got to the correct plane & not another going to Anchorage. Getting it on the plane is another story but all I can do is hope, just like I do curbside. :goodvibes
