We have a cedar deodara covered in bag worms. We thought they were butterfly cocoons.

Anybody know how to save our tree?

Do you mean army worms or tent worms? The only way to get rid of those is to cut the branch they are living on and burn them. They will devour everything in their path. I am sure there is something you can spray to irradicate them before they get to the tenting stage, but I don't know what it is.
