Bad time to get a job?

I'm really thinking about this again. Re-entering my former workplace but, with all the layoffs and such, I wonder how easy it'll be for me to do this. I was in real estate law for about 13 years and, I've got banking, both personal and commercial before that. Is there something out there for me?

With the lawyers, I did closings like, when you buy/sell a house and, with banking, I did a lot from, teller to head teller, new account/customer assistance, drive thru manager and, commercial loan secretary.

With real estate and finance as a backing, do I stand I chance?

I haven't checked a Want Ad at all recently so, I'm just asking how people feel about all that's going on right now and, trying to find a job. Should I wait a little while longer?

Thanks.

With all that experience under your belt mate surely there is a job out there for you.

I'm pretty sure you'd find one over here with all that experience..

Good luck mate;)

I'm right behind you:)

I think that would be a good background right now. I know IT jobs aren't doing very well here but I think banking is just fine. Also since refinancing is at an all time high there is probably a demand for people with mortage experience.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Truthfully Kim, I have no idea at all, but it sounds like you should be able to get something with your qualifications! Really I just wanted to wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide to do :sunny:

The economy is in the tank around here and in most parts of the country. . but I sure don't see what it would hurt to give it a shot Kim.. :)

Much luck!! :) :) :)

I keep hearing from people in the home lending business that they expect the housing market to drop off. However, I would think that the refinancing would remain strong.

I say .. GO FOR IT! Polish up your resume.. check the online resources. Also you may want to post it online.. several good sites available. Start cruisin the internet.. you will be so surprised at what is available.

I was surprised by the number of job-share positions available in San Francisco when I was hunting the internet for dh.
The job market is varied across the country. There is a high need for teachers and nurses in Ca. Experience admin. assistants can usually find a job.. it is just finding the right job;)

YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!

Don't hesitate to include Personal Lines insurance to your search too (homeowners & auto insurance).

I too have banking background (asst head teller up to asst branch mgr -- complete with loans & mortgages). Then we were all laid off when bank merged.

I work as a cust serv rep at a small insurance agency. (My decision to stay out of management this time.) We are owned my lawyers who have law practice next door.

You wouldn't BELIEVE how much banking, insurance, and law crosses paths all day long.

Don't wait to get started. The layoffs will continue and whatever distance you can put between yourself and the rest of the pack could mean you get a job vs. one of them.

I was part of a downsizing in December and am back in the market after 23 years of consecutive employment. I am now reaping the rewards of the groundwork I laid almost 8 weeks ago, but truthfully, some of the rewards will not begin to show up for 6 months.

Good luck to us all !!

Thanks everybody! I'm glad to read such positive replies. I was expecting a lot worse I guess, the way things are.

I especially like the job-share and insurance ideas!

Now...what are some of those online job search places?

Thanks again! :Pinkbounc
