Bad Stay at CR

With the prices Disney unashamedly charges for their Resorts these days, anything above a MB not working should receive IMMEDIATE compensation.

If I was not immediately compensated in your situation,my relationship with Disney would have ALL ENDED WITH A MOUSE!

While it can happen anywhere, the only place I had a consistent problem was at CR - I don't think I've had an issue in any other resort.. I used to leave the room with 2-3 different MBs when we went to the parks because, guaranteed, only one (not always the same one!) would open the door. DH, of course, had no such problem. Just me.
I'm the opposite, I don't think I've stayed in any Disney resort that at least once my MB didn't work, even when I have them reset at the front desk. I've stayed in just about all the resorts on property. I've gotten where I test it every single time before I leave the room, I do travel with a number of them but I always get all of them tested at the front desk when I check in and get them reset if necessary. I just stand outside with the door slightly ajar now and tap it before I leave to make sure it's going to open when I come back. I miss keys (not cards, good old fashioned keys).

Had stored luggage with bell services so could spend day at MK until room was ready. Apparently the guy who checked it in forgot to put tags on the bags so it took them a long time to find.
So you never asked for your luggage receipts as you would have done at the GF.
There was apparently a work order on the shower in our room and maintenance came by to fix it around 5 pm. Told us we wouldn't be able to use shower for a few hours while the glue set. All DM wanted to do was shower that evening and she couldn't.
Did you ask for another room with a working shower?
Oh my goodness! Did you ask at the desk to speak to a manager? I would absolutely freak out with a mouse in the room.
There is a manager on duty 24 hours per day to address just this type health / cleanliness issue. For other's following along always ask to speak to the manager on duty.

Well played! :)

CR is the one I was about to pay cash for after buying into DVC. DS7 dreams of staying there. Rethinking hard about that now. Perhaps I’ll continue to wait for better reports.

This has happened to us at BC and POFQ. Both back to back trips. No idea why it always happens to us. We will see if it’ll happen again this summer

We have had several magic bands issues at all our favourite resorts.
We joke, it’s not a trip to Disney without multiple visits to the front desk. lol.

OP, if you are comfortable and you remember, could you share the room number? My aunt and cousin are staying in the garden wing in a few weeks, and it would be good to know if this is a first floor or location issue (or if the problem is just everywhere). Would also be good to know in case they get assigned this room or its neighbor!

I don’t know that I’d rule out CR based on this one report. We were just in a garden wing room in January. We had no issues at all & had a great stay in a beautiful room. As PPs said, Magic Band issues can happen anywhere. I would say the same thing about bell services. We stored our luggage on arrival at CR & had it transferred to YC days later… again no issues.

The shower thing is unacceptable & I would have questioned or refused to let that be done if the shower was otherwise usable. The room shouldn’t have been assigned with a maintenance issue.

The mouse would have freaked me out for sure. However I don’t know if this is an isolated incident or bigger problem. This is the only report so far. Some of the garden wing rooms are right near the water or have shrubs right nearby. This could even be a matter of someone else leaving a patio door open. Or it could b a bigger issue, had to know just yet. You could always book a room in the tower if the garden wing makes you nervous.

Without more details from the OP I am going to guess that it was a first floor room an a previous guest left the sliding glass doors open and the little field mouse made an appearance.

Disney has one of the best pest management teams in the business. They use all family safe chemicals, only when actually needed and often other guests are the source of the pests with food they leave / crumbs they leave in the rooms.

Disney pest teams use beagles to search for bed bugs and trained ducks and trainers to hunt for snake eggs and other critters that like to take up residence in the mulch area througout the parks and resorts.

Yep, that’s my thought as well.

Sure. But still, a mouse in the room is a dealbreaker IMO, and I think I’m pretty tolerant. I cannot imagine having a relaxed attitude about that for any hotel room, much less at a Disney deluxe resort. I have stayed at CR a number of times and never experienced an infestation of any type (there or anywhere on property - though ask me about the Kissimmee Holiday Inn ;) ), but it still warranted/warrants an immediate and strong customer service response from management.

Most useful post I’ve seen around here in years. YEARS.

That’s great but whether it’s an isolated incident or an infestation (agree that’s unlikely) it hardly matters to OP. A mouse ate through their bag while they slept in an $800+ supposedly luxury hotel room. It’s a joke and CR/Disney management should be mortified and bending over backwards to make it right.

Not to mention the shower thing which would honestly make me more upset as the hotel was 100% responsible. The room wasn’t ready for guests and they put them there anyway.

They shouldn’t have put them in a room with a work order on it to fix a shower such that they wouldn’t be able to use it for hours. This is all traceable in their computer system and I’d be arguing for being reimbursed for that night.

The mouse. That’s awful, but pests are not 100% in Disney’s control. They could have asked to move rooms once that was discovered, but honestly, I’m not sure they would have done anything else. Doors are left open by guests and housekeeping. Could have unknowingly picked up the mouse in a park or in other luggage left with Bell Services. Disney tries hard, but creatures live everywhere and even with solid pest management, even the animals know Disney is a great place to be. Everyone - birds, ants, squirrels, mice - all love free food. I literally watched a crow drink from a cup on a stroller last trip.

The MB problem is a common nuisance. And the phone app should work, even if the MB doesn’t, and you can have the band fixed later. It’s wise to inactivate MBs on your account if you have a bunch and just leave 1-3 per person on the room active to have that be more reliable. Once I cut to only having 2 or 3 active bands, I haven’t had the problem since.

My recent stay in a CR garden wing room was excellent. It was spotless, ready early, quiet, everyone’s band worked, fully stocked with expected amenities and towels, and totally met our expectations. Now yes, I’ve had Disney rooms with peeling paint, hair in the shower, non working HVAC units, missing lightbulbs, missing towels, wet carpet, horribly loud other quests after quiet hours, and a frog as a guest. But Disney did make it right every time.

OP, I agree that this experience was crappy for you. Multiple things went south for you and that stinks. I would have been super angry myself. That shower issue would have sent me to the front desk asking for them to move us. But it can happen at any resort and remember to complain appropriately at the time. Hopefully your next stay at a WDW resort goes more smoothly!

Agree Disney can't control all wildlife, but a Mouse in a Guest room is a very unpleasant experience and even more so when it chews through a cinch bag and leaves Mouse waste!

The Front Desk CM should have immediately called for a Manager and SOMETHING should have been done.

If not a free night maybe a voucher to replace the bag and a free meal at one of the CR Restaurants.

ANYTHING to show concern from The Mouse because of The Mouse.

OP: I agree with the other posters that they should never have put you in a room with a deficient shower. And then the mouse???? They are dirty, nasty creatures and you should be compensated for your trouble.

Please let us know how they respond to your letter.

I had the luggage receipt which is what I showed the bell services person when we got back to the resort after spending the day at the parks. Instead of waiting for the bags right there we just asked if they could just send it to the room. We got a call while waiting for them that they were having trouble locating them and they wanted us to describe them. When we eventually got them the guy who delivered it said the luggage tag they place on them wasn't on it and that's what was causing the delay.

It was after 5PM when it came for the shower so it seemed like more of a hassle to demand to move rooms without any guarantee that one would be available. It was a one night stay so could live with cleaning up with towels and showering in the morning.

Honestly am surprised DM didn't demand to speak to a manager. I think we were both a little over Disney at hat pain having been there earlier in the week and just wanted to do a few hours at HS before leaving. This obviously hasn't been our experience at any Disney Resort in the past so we were kind of chalking it up to a one off thing.

It was 6105. First floor and probably was in the room beforehand because we never opened the sliding glass door.

Haven't heard one thing from Disney yet. Just sent another message today.

My mother has a fear of mice ever since my family were helping my grandfather and great-grandmother move into their house and my great-grandmother had given my mom and me the task of cleaning her new bedroom and setting it up. My mom was unpacking my great-grandmother's makeup when suddenly my mother screamed really LOUD and my great-grandmother asked her why she freaked out and Mom found a mouse and my mother called my uncle and Dad for help to get it out and so my uncle got mouse traps and saved the day and was Mom's hero but to this day my mother still freaks out at mice. I don't know how or why you and your mother found out that your room had mouse problems in it and not to mention a non working shower. If I were you I would've asked for a different room and tried to get an apology of a discount on your stay. The way you described your story reminds me of the movie National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation with the scene when the Griswolds freak out over a squirrel in the Christmas tree. I hope you get a nice discount or an apology from Disney

Guests really do not need to leave patio or balcony doors open. I am just glad it was not a snake. People really do not think about what can come in with the slider open. I have seen people post they sleep with it open, Yikes.

As to Magic Band door issues, this is what I do and mine always wor, YMMV. I never have more than one active at a time. I deactive all the other ones in my account. If I get to the room and the one I want to use is not working. I deactivate it, wait a few minutes and try again and so far all of mine work. I also always use the most current ones.
