Bad Smell Rant

My vile neighbours have come back from their holiday today and he has already got my back up. The problem is he is a heavy smoker and not allowed to smoke in their house. He used to smoke on the back door step which is the other side of the house but since having the drive done she has banned him from dropping his ash on the floor!!!! so now he smokes in the back garden close to the house so DD keeps getting this disgusting smell in her bedroom and in our bathroom. Is there a rule about inflicting this smell on some one elses home no one has ever smoked in any of the houses i have lived in and i resent having to smell him. Sorry for the rant but i just had to ask the question.

I truly sympathise, I think the smell of cigarette smoke absolutely awful, but I doubt there is much you can do except ask politely if he would mind smoking a little further away from your house.

That's a tough one. Legally I don't think there is anything you could do but a call to the Council couldn't hurt although i'd probably do that as a last resort. Is he a nice guy (besides the fact that he smokes!)?

Could he not go back to smoking where he used to but with an ashtray? I mean, just because he has to smoke outside doesn't mean the whole 'outside' has to be his ashtray!

I dont know. Its a touchy subject. The next door neighbour could argue its his garden etc... I dont think there is anything legally you can do. Considering its his property. I would perhaps speak to the wife and see if you both can divulge a plan together perhaps

Thats the problem they are not a very nice couple and we haven't spoken to them for almost 2 years because they have caused a lot of problems with noise and inconciderate behaviour.

Oh dear I dont think you can do anything then. I know this is drastic, but how about moving?

Our neighbours smoke and sometimes u can smell it in my bathroom....yuck!
