We were trying to get a King Sized bed at French Quarter. I had heard it was such a great place and we had never stayed there before and wanted to this upcoming trip. The travel agent told me today they had availability at FQ, but no King beds. She does have a king sized bed at Riverside.

My hubby is really tall and this is an anniversary trip so the double beds really isn't appealing to us. How different is Riverside compared to FQ (I heard Riverside is much bigger and the pool area isn't as nice), should I just go back to CBR (which we really liked, but it was very big and spread out), or try CSR??

Any opinions would be appreciated...thanks

We've stayed at POR 2 times and love it. It's a big resort but not too big. We were in the Mansion section both time and not more than a 3 minute walk from the main building and the main bus stop.

The pool is very nice. I liked it a lot. POFQ didn't appeal to us at all and POR is just a beautiful resort.

CSR is a beautiful resort! The Dig Site pool area is great. The grounds around the resort are nicely landscaped. Also if you're on the DDP, the Pepper Market is the best CS deal on property.

both PO resorts are great plus if you want you can just walk to the other pool it is maybe a five min walk!!!! they are both great you'll have fun!!

Thanks

Good. I would not think twice about booking POR. Plus they just refurbished the food court and I've heard a lot of good things about it. Plus, there are a few quiet pools that we would go to everynight after the parks. At 11pm it was soooooo refreshing. I think they are open all the time too.

The CSR is very nice (we will be staying for the 7th time in September--to celebrate our 25th anniversary). It is very large, but it also has a great pool, food court, hot tub, spa/fitness center. My DH and I love walking around the lake at night when the lights are on all the buildings...it is quite serene and romantic.

I guess this is the reason there are so many different resorts. People like different things. I would not hesitate to stay at either Riverside or French Quarter. You can enjoy both pools and the walk is not that far. CBR is great also. But what I was alluding to in my first sentence is that we did not enjoy our stay at all at Coronado Springs and the main reason was the Pepper Market. I feel it is way over-rated and is the worst CS on Disney property. To each his own. I'm sure you'll have a great trip, no matter where you stay.

I've stayed at the POR 5 times and love it. There is one large main pool and several other smaller pools. It's beautiful and I much prefer it to FQ.

I am not sure when you are going but the main pool at CBR is closed. The new pool area will open mid September.

I've stayed at all the mods on numerous occasions. I can understand your hesitation with POR vs POFQ.

I would say that you should try POFQ. I've had king rooms at both and they are great! POR is mre spread out, but try to request a room in the mansions section and it will be very quiet, romantic setting and also close enough to walk everywhere you want to go. Yes, it's bigger. You can't excape that fact. But, if you get a good king room in a mansion area, you'll enjoy it very much.

CBR is a wonderful resort and I've always enjoyed staying there (it was the first on-site place I stayed as a child). That said, the mansions at POR tend to be a bit more secluded and for some reason the resort never feels as big and spread out as CBR.

CSR is nice, not my favorite. It is a convention resort and despite all the things they've tried to make it feel like a mod and family resort, it still always has that convention vibe to me.

One last thing to note, POR also offers boat service to DTD. That's something none of the other mods (aside from POFQ) offer and it's a nice relaxing jaunt to DTD.

Hope that helps!

We stayed in a King room at Port Orleans and thought it was quite nice.

We also wanted a king bed at POFQ for Sept., I called every other day for 2 weeks and finally got it! We love the FQ....not really fond of POR. But, at least it's just a hop, skip and a jump away.

POR is a very nice resort, even if you are located in the very back it is less then a 10 minute walk to the main bldg. My family prefers POFQ only because of the bus service, buses stop at FQ before going to POR, but the new FC at POR is great we love the pasta station. These are our favorite two resorts, since you can walk or take the boat to each other as well as taking the boat to DDD. Plus POR has a horse drawn carriage ride which is very nice.

I have stayed at CBR, POR and CSR. CBR is actually our favorite mod resort with POR being a close second. We did not care for CSR.

DH and I stayed at POR without kids a couple of years ago and thought the resort was just beautiful, romantic and the location to DTD was awesome. Please don't have any hesitations. For an anniversary I think it would be perfect.

Have a wonderful anniversary trip!!

Denise

and again I will say so glad Disney has so many choices. Dh and I stayed in a king bedded room in Sept for our annivesary in the mansions section of Riverside. We felt it was quite a hike to bus stops and food court. but with no kiddos along it was okay. We did enjoy quiet pools that time and thought room was big enough with a King bed.

just returned from POR AB with kids along. IMO, we got the best building available for convenience Bldge 14 but still did not like the AB section at all. just don't like the decor at all but that is simply my taste. Also rooms with 2 double beds were just to small for our family and amount of stuff we seem to accumulate each trip.

We visted and swam at both Riverside and French Quarter. FQ was so much, cleaner, nicer, better cared for. Slide was lazy and slower and just awesome for our 2 preschoolers. Of course the pool just reopened a few weeks ago. POR pool was always crowded, always dirty, always hard to find a chair and no life vest for small kiddos available at pool (needed to go to marina for them). again, slide was fun (faster but long lines)but otherwise much prefer FQ.

FQ feels more romantic to me as well. more compact, quieter.

our other issue is the food courts. POR was again crowded, hum ho food and dirty tables. we did like the pasta one time and kids liked personal pizzas. We enjoyed the FQ selections much better. faster service, cleaner dining area. and milkshakes and beignets to boot.

about the king beds, just keep calling back. that's how I got our king at Riverside last time. (had never been to either resort and thought I would like it better than FQ at time! :rotfl: )

oh well, only thing I can say about buses it there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to them at all. We would think okay, we got it and they would change it up. some days we shared some days we did not. never waited to long ever which suprised me, did last Sept.

love the boat to FQ from Riverside and on to DTD. very nice alternative to buses. Again, IMO it is a bit of a hike in the hot FL sun to walk if you are carrying anything much along (think kids and swim toys, and whatnot)

visted CB and CSR both just to walk around and see them this trip. CB pool is closed off completely. CSR is lovely, more deluxe feel, nice big pool, but do not like food court set up as much with a large family it can get pricey. altho selections looked so yummy and bakery items looked so good. store seemed bigger here too.

and those are my biased opinions from a trip we just returned from today!
