Bad Luck Stories

The worst is getting stuck on splash mounatin when you have to tinkle..... all that water :rotfl:

Spaceship Earth breaks down EVERYTIME I ride it. Let's see.....Buzz, Space Mountain and Test Track are the others I can remember.

Last trip DH & I went in the single riders line for Test Track to get on faster. I ended up in a car with a Dad and two sons. Of course TT kept stopping and running slow and the audio was on and off. The two boys (obviously had never been on it before) still thought it was so cool. I wanted to say "No! It's much better - you have to ride it again when it's working right!"

We had "Haunted Mansion" quit while we were heading up the steep rise in the cemetery scene, and again when we had the 'rider' in the cab with us.

The same day, when we were going through "Small World" (this was recently - so after the renovation) we noticed an electrical fire / ozone smell in one of the rooms (not sure which one anymore) - when we got off the boat 2 Cast Members with a fire extinguisher got in...

Begining of June we got stuck in Small World for 20 minutes, in the very last room ....

We never go on IASM, we just did it this time to see the refurb. I felt like I was being torutured. 20 non-stop minutes of "It's a world of laughter and world of tears. It's a world of Hope and a world of fears......" over and over and over.

We got stuck for about 5 minutes in the absolute pitch dark on ToT. It was okay, though, because after the ride started back up and we finished, when the doors opened, there was a CM there who asked us if we'd like to ride again, immediately.

Duh.

So we wandered through some back hallway, past a couple of maintenance guys, and back into the loading area. Got two rides for the wait of one.

I thought that I was the only one to "jinx" rides! :rotfl:

our family has a bad-luck at disney record... rides don't break down, the parks get closed!

first time we went in '99 a hurricane hit and the parks were closed for the first time in history... we got the last plane out of mco, leaving my cousins stranded!

next time we took the kids was late august '01... left the day before 9/11 and the second time parks were ever closed...

in '04 we rode out hurricane frances at pop century while the parks were closed for two to three days (depending on which park) and we had to stay an extra two days...

we're heading back in '05... i recommend everyone steer clear 'cause there's sure to be something going on...

I'm glad I am going in July! :cool1:
No matter what...you will be getting FREE dining!!!! Have a great time!

The most interesting ride breakdown for my family happened in Disneyland a couple years ago. We were riding on the Jungle Cruise at night - really cool - and as we were almost finished, the boat in front of us got stuck. So (after a while of waiting) they decided that all the boats in line behind the stuck boat (only a few since it was late) would go BACKWARDS through the Jungle Cruise to get us back to the dock.

It was pretty funny, except we were stressed because it made us late for Fantasmic dessert reservations which led to poor seating. But an adventure nonetheless!

 Me and my fellow passengers blew a tire on Test Track- the kicker?-it was going full speed and stopped abruptly on the outside embankment. I had to hold on to the side of the car about 5 minutes, trying not to squish the guy to my left. They brought us slowly into the docking station and sent the car onto another track so it could be repaired. That was a first-and hopefully a last. lol

When I was last at WDW (August 2003), my family and I were on Test Track and it broke down. Of course it just HAD to break down at the part where the temps. go from very hot to very cold. Lets just say that part of the ride was freezing. :goodvibes

I also got stuck in Haunted Mansion for a couple of minutes, but that wasn't too bad.

Yes, Journey to Imagination, Small World and several buses when the lift broke. Longest time stuck was on a bus for 3 hours when the couldn't get the lift up. Hot, thirsty and just plan miserable.

This is sort of a trivial fact, but did you know that Test Track has 22 tires? Only 4 are visible

I have a non-ride bad luck story: I got the chicken pox at the end of one of my childhood visits. I had a nice last two days or so in our room at the Contemporay Resort. :-\

My son and DH got stuck on Test Track in the "hot" area for about 15 minutes.

Our whole family got stuck at Pirates in the "We wants the redhead scene"

My daughter and I got stuck in Dinosaur. They had to turn on the lights and have us exit the vehicle and walk down a path.

We were at WDW from June 15-23 and just about everything was down at one point or another. Mostly just for short periods. It actually helped us at one time when Splash Mtn was down. We rode Big Thunder instead and my DS noticed the logs moving again. Before this the line at Splash was REALLY long but by now most people left. We rode on several times with no waiting at all. Just being the right place at the right time.

I Wonder if the rides in the Summer get "overheated" or something, and that causes breakdowns and delays?

OH Oh hope you aren't coming in October. That's when I will be there.
Just kidding. :flower:
Have a great vacation.
Here's some pixie dust for you :wizard:

Just 95 more days

Our bad luck at Disney World seems to be more along the lines of inability to get AR's when we would like and having bad luck with boring waiters/waitresses at restaurants that we watch the other tables having a blast with their's. LOL

The only ride we had break down during our 10 day trip that we wanted to ride was SM soon as we got over there to it (they were just telling the long line about the ride being down). But it wasn't too bad... just took the older two over to ride the cars while we (me and youngest) waited and by that time SM was open for business again. :)

We were riding IASW several years ago, very close to closing time. It was a slow time of year, and we were the only ones in the boat. Halfway through the ride, it appeared as though they somehow "powered down" the ride. The vehicle slowed way down, then stopped. The lights dimmed. The music, THE INFERNAL MUSIC, slowed way, way down, making that weird "record being turned by hand" cadence...fast, then slow, then really, really slow. Funny for the first 5 minutes, annoying for the next 5 minutes, really spooky for the final 10 minutes. That's when we began shouting, "We're in here!". Then it powered back up, and we were carried out. When we asked the CM what happened, he just shrugged. If it weren't for the creepy music, and the freaky little dolls just staring at us, we could have probably spent the night, and been first in line in the morning.

When I was a child, we had a string of bad luck too...Spaceship Earth broke down and we had to get out and walk back to the beginning...Snow White broke down just as the doors flew open to let us out. There we sat, in our little car, staring at the line of people waiting to get on. And we were trapped. Only feet from safety, yet so so far away...it felt like hours, but was probably only minutes.

But the worst? I...I still can't think of this without shuddering...it was horrible. My beloved father, mother and big brother were scarred for life along with me. We were innocently riding along, surrounded by music and animated beings and then...

It's A Small World broke down.

But the music didn't.

:scared1:

I can still see them...those dolls. And hear them...over and over and over and over and over...and we were trapped. Surrounded by water...couldn't even make a swim for it...

My DS now calls it "the ride Mommy got stuck on" every time we pass it. He finally rode it with DH last May when it was out of refurb. I stood, pressed against the walls of Peter Pan, trying to drown out that infernal song with "We Can Fly". DH and DS came back with about 50 digital pictures of those horrible little dolls. Yay.

Maybe, as an adult, it would be better. But I doubt it.

:teeth:
