Bad idea to go from MK to WL for lunch?

I'm taking my DD6 to Magic Kingdom (her first trip). We can only spend 1 day there, from park opening to about 3:30 or so. I'm thinking about taking the boat from MK to WL for lunch at Roaring Forks. How long will this take? Are we better off to do counter service in MK? The boat ride & lunch might give us a much needed break, but I'm wondering if it will take too much precious time away from the park. I welcome your opinion.

A trip to WL to eat at a counter service restaurant seems like a waste of time to me, especially if you only have one day. Roaring Forks is nothing special. I would conservatively plan 30 min each way for travel. Unless you really would enjoy the boat ride, I would stay in the park.

If you only have 6hrs to spend, I'd stay at MK and find something there. You will spend a lot more time than you think moving from MK to WL, at last 2hrs by the time you go, eat, and return.

Definately stay in the parks! WL is awesome to see but Roaring Forks is nothing great. Eat at Pecos Bills or somewhere in the MK - better andquicker.
Have a great day!

I agree with everyone on this one. Stay at MK. As a rule, I always plan at least one hour to get from point A to point B at Disneyworld. That will be 2 hours out of your day just for transportation.

If you could stay longer that day, maybe you could head out to WCC for a couple of hours as a break from the heat, etc.. We've actually done this with Kona Cafe at the Poly which made for a great break in our day!

I wanted to post this question so maybe someone can help here. If I am at MK how long will it take to get to dinner at WCC and what transpo do I take? Also any reviews would be helpful and also any WCC vs Ohana's input? Thanks!

Stay in MK. It is not worth it to leave for lunch anywhere if you only have 6 1/2 hours and it is your DD's first visit.
