bad drivers!

So I am *really* trying to love our new town and most of the time I do. I am just always astounded at how aggresively people drive here!

On Saturday we had the family in the car and headed out to the library. We are in the right hand lane. All of a sudden this woman comes whipping around us and cuts in front us. Mu husband had to slam on the brakes and swerve to avoid hitting her. When we passed her he tapped on the horn, he didnt lay on it, he just tapped it to make her aware of what she did. I look over at her and she appears to be about 70 years old (about my mums age) and then I do a double take because she is FLIPPING US THE BIRD! Are you kidding me???
My 15 year old DS was just staring at her and said "ummm did anyone else see that?"

She had some skill too, she didnt even have to hold the rest of fingers down! Obviously we werent her first victims.

I was absolutley stunned!

Now I can laugh at it but dang, she was a really bad driver!

Yes, the people that drive in the left lane, 10 mph under the speed limit and get mad if they are tailgated--move over for crying out loud.

Coming home from class one night, I was less than a mile down the road when another car came flying up on my tail. I was, um, rather eager to get home and was already doing close to 45 in a 30 , so there was no need for her to tailgate. At the stop sign at the entrance to our neighborhood, she went through it with me, instead of yielding to the person on the right who stopped after me. On the street just before mine (where the limit is now 25), there was a van with out-of-state plates driving VERY slowly and almost stopping at every house - obviously looking for a particular address. She would have to be blind not to see that, and I would have thought that a normal person would finally slow down...

Nope. She stayed right up on my bumper. So I put on my signal and pulled over to let her pass. She pulled over and stopped as well! We sat there for a minute before she finally decided to go.

And she hit me. She was so close, she couldn't get around me without hitting me. Although she could have backed up first...

No damage, so I didn't bother calling the police...but I pulled out after her, got her plate number, and also her address when she pulled into her driveway.

This isn't necessarily aggressive driving, but it definitely counts as stupid driving.

About a month ago I was on the interstate driving home from college for the weekend, when I noticed a minivan in the right lane (I was in the left lane) that started swerving. I slowed down so the van wouldn't hit me, but after about a minute the van straightened out again. I decided it would be fine to pass them, so I sped up a little. As I was passing, I noticed that no one was in the drivers seat. After I finished passing them, I looked in my rear-view mirror only to see the driver in the back seat trying to climb over the drivers seat with her hands on the steering wheel trying to drive the van. There was a person in the front passenger seat who had her foot on the gas pedal, and the women continued trying to steer the van while climbing back into the drivers seat. All this while continuously driving 75-80mph.

Yep! Its especially bad here because there are so many damn old people! Seriously, AZ needs to revamp their driving laws for the elderly.

The other day, I was at a 4-way stop and 2 cadillacs collided with eachother. When I saw this, I jumped out and saw that both were 85+ women. Both were ok. Just bumps and bruises, but oh man!

Then there are those that think they have free reign of the road and go 60+mph on side roads.

Well, we moved to SC from NJ a few years ago. We went to buy a new car down here and was astonished that the cars actually do come with turn signals. You would never know it because no one around here uses them. I use mine all the time, even to turn into my driveway when no one is around.

I would have reported it as a suspected drunk driver. Pulling over and then stopping when you did is a HUGE red flag for drunk driving.

Well, since you asked for other stories, yes I have one.

DH and I took a vacation to Tennessee last month and we were in Pigeon Forge, traffic was kind of slow because it was a busy Saturday when we got there. We were driving in the right hand lane and all of a sudden someone in the left lane decides they want to make a right turn. IN FRONT OF US. They came across our lane and DH had to slam on the brakes. They made their turn and didn't even look back. My heart was in my throat. I couldn't believe someone would do that!!

Reading these stories makes me even more scared of driving, all of us need to be careful on the road cause there are some craaaaazy people out there

But it is a small town. And she always makes that same turn at that location at that time of day. You should have been aware of this, just as everyone else in the town is, and prepared for it.

Wellll...I hesitate to call the police for anything here. I worked with them for a while and they absolutely REFUSE to take complaints unless you leave your name, address, and phone number. "The accused has the right to face the accuser." Which is understandable...but you don't know who you're dealing with and I don't want retribution from these people. 2 of the 3 times I was hit while driving - all of them the other drivers' fault - a relative of the driver called my house, demanding to see the damage. We told them that they were welcome to see the car - while accompanied by THEIR adjuster AND ours. Later in the night, someone tried to break into the garage. Called the police again, each time, and was told, again, "The accused has the right to face the accuser."

That's nothing. Back in '71 I was in San Fransico and was passed on the left in an intersection. The big deal was I was in the left turn lane waiting to make a left hand turn.

Respectfully, while they're bad drivers, tailgating is just plain unsafe. Look for a break in the traffic to your right, signal, change lanes, and again when it's safe - which shouldn't be long at all - signal and pull back into the left lane. MAYBE if enough people do that, the bad driver will get the hint and move over?

FYI, in FL. it was just announced that Police will now start enforcing the 2 car length distance law with regards to tailgating.

I was just going to start a thread on driving There is a street just past the freeway overpass that is a really sharp turn to get in, and the speed limit on the main street is 45. Now, when I know I'm going to turn down this street I make sure to put my signal on when I'm at the top of the overpass so any person in back of me has loads of time to know I'm turning soon and either slow down or change lanes. I can't even count the number of times I've been forced to whip into that street because the person in back of me is right up my tailpipe. What is it about the turn signal they don't understand! And most of the time these people could easily change lanes and go around me. One of these days I'm going to turn at a reasonable speed and if some clown hits me I will probably end up in jail myself after I beat the living tar out of them.
