Argh!!! :headache: I hate group projects in school! (Warning long!)

So, I am in an assigned group in my college class and we are presented a project next week. The presentation was based on a chapter from our textbook. The chapter was equally split amongst us and so I went to work on it.

The first day we seperated the chapter one girl was not there and we could not get a hold of her, this was ok because we would tell her the next class session what was her part in the project. Well, she was there the next time and so afterclass I was planning to tell her what was going on, the minute class was dismissed she was off like a gazelle and left class. So, no one has her phone number, email nothing. This happened TWICE!

Finally, this monday there is contact information ( I wasn't there for that day, had to take care of my nephew who got sick on the bus :guilty: ) I emailed one of the group members about the presentation and he said we will meet up on Wednesday because he knows everyone will be there and we will talk bout the project.

While all this hubub is going on, I am working on my section, doing the reports I have to do, researching, powerpoint, editing, everything I can do to make a good impression. So, I am nearly done and ahead of schedule.

This Wednesday we met up afterclass...but this time it is just he and I. The other two members are not to be found despite the fact we told them. I found out that the gazelle girl doesn't know what section she is working on, the other girl doesn't know how to power point and so I offered to call her up and see if she needs my help. The one member who has been on the ball is nearly done. We are graded individually but since we are a group I want us to look as good as possible. I am not asking for much but that next week when we have to present that the chapter is actually covered!

SO, besides this presentation I have a mid-term in my English lit class next week but I am not stressing about that because I studied a bit in advance, I have a research project due in three weeks, a Math test the day after the mid-term and I am starting my new class soon. With all of that, I came home bent on getting through it all and not mucking up. I came home to an untidy house because of the morning rush and tidied it up because clutter kind of gets to me when I get stressed.

So, just right now I was delving into " King Arthur" (my research project) when in comes the fiance.
"Hun, I am not cooking today, so can you either get a pizza or make something?" I said.
"You aren't cooking?"
"Nope, tomorrow I'll cook but besides the nephew getting sick and just getting over it and the school stuff I am beat."
"My friends are coming over for dinner."
"What! When was this?!"
"This morning we were going to have dinner and just hang out."
(Deep breathes) " Well, have fun having what you are making or just get a pizza, please I am busy!"
"I told them you were making chicken poblano."
"When did I say I was making this?"
"I thought you would today."
:headache:
" Get...pizza...I am...not..your...cook!"
"Jeez, you are always like this every month." (Yeah..I know what he is implying)
I will spare you what I said because it contain epitaths.

Thanks for listening to the vent, this is my first real breather through the day. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

P.S. This isn't my first time that my nephew got sick on the bus. I thought it was what he was having for breakfast but that isn't it. He is new to school so maybe it is nerves? I got to make that boy a doctor's appointment quick.

You did a very good job by not hitting him in the head with a text book. That's probably what I would have done.

Ugh. That is a bad day. Your fiance is lucky you didn't hurt him! I might have.

I hope tomorrow is much better for you.

I'm not a big fan of group projects. All of those college experiences though have convinced me to always offer my students the opportunity to work alone if they choose.

Sorry to hear you are having a bad day. I don't like group projects either. All you can do is the best you can, but I know it is a pain when other people don't pull their weight.

Your fiance is so lucky you didn't throw something at him!

Does your nephew have motion sickness? Just a thought.

I hope things get better soon. :flower3:

Well, thats what I thought. Maybe it was motion sickness, but he is usually fine in the car. I made an appointment a little earlier.

As for the fiance, he is sitting there eating pizza with his friends so I ordered myself a good dinner from some place and will have it with gusto on my next study break. He is acting contrite so maybe he will be a sweetpea for the next couple of days (jk)

Lots of hugs to you because you deserve them.

Now....get back to work!!! :) I hope you get lots of A's the next few weeks!!!

Having survived a number of group projects (some where the group was graded as a whole! ) I can tell you to just don't go there. Don't worry about what the others do or don't do. Yes, you very well may have to do the whole thing yourself, but that's life. And trust me, that's life.

The workplace is no different. Some of us will constantly do more while some others will constantly do the bare minimum. Pick the kind of person you want to be, and don't look back.

As for the fiance? Sounds like you are a-ok with not being a doormat, so that's a good thing! Hopefully, he will be more alert to your needs from here on out.

Take care now and good luck with the nephew... (check to make sure no one is bullying him, ok)?

I too hated doing group projects, and when it comes to grading your fellow group members please be truthful... if they did not help or do their part then they should get a grade based on that...and as far as the cooking dinner tonight, I would have had to put a hurtin' on my DBF....LOL.... take a break and do some DISing and relax for a bit.... good luck on your project and your mid terms
