BAD BOYS BAD BOYS!! Undercover Security

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if this has already been posted ...

I watched a documentary some years back about the Imagineers of Disney - apparently Disney has undercover security that patrols the parks and goes on the rides to watch out for people who take photos of the animatronix etc so that outside companies can't steal their secrets.

I don't know if that's true or not. If it were true we might not have all the flash-photography on the dark rides--but that's another thread. Sorry.;)

.... except for the fact that you can take pictures without a flash and can record rides without external video lighting on 95% of the rides.

LOL the Disney mafia.

I admit I didn't read this whole thread but this was a funny story - last February my fiance, sister and I were at the MK for evening EMH, and went into the Haunted Mansion. Well 2 women who were in their 40s had a backpack and inside was apparently a bottle of white wine. They were pretty loud during the first part of the HM, where you're in the stretching room, and it was clear they were drunk, but we kind of held back to see what would happen. Well we go through the ride, and we happened to be 3-4 cars behind them. When we got off, they had some trouble with the moving platform, and once they got back to solid ground again, one almost took a header into the wall. FINALLY, a CM noticed what was going on, and he made a signal to another one just outside the door. We followed, because now I was intrigued about how Disney would handle this. Since they were just drunk, and not visibly drinking, I figured Disney wouldn't do anything, unless they were becoming a hazard to other guests or themselves (which was probably already debatable). Every CM we passed was watching them, and several who looked like tourists began to follow them and us to it's a small world. Well we ended up in the same boat, and somehow the first one in (the one who had trouble with the moving walkway in HM), was also the first one out. She kind of lost her balance and went right out onto the unloading side of the platform. She got back in the boat, and spent the whole ride with her hand in the water and her friend kind of passed out, so at the end, there were several "tourists" on hand to help them out of the boat and offered to walk them to the front gate. Definitely super polite, and I'm pretty sure these two weren't aware that they were being escorted out, but it was funny to watch.

Fun, fun thread!!!
I have been going to Disney for 18 years and I have only experienced or observed Big Brother Disney watching four time.

First Time: Someone on Splash Mountain stood up right before "the drop" and the ride stopped and a voice told them to sit down. She sat down and the ride began.

Second Time: The year TOT opened we were at the top and about to be dropped when a voice told a man to put down his camera.

Third Time: It war right before a parade close to Tonys. A little boy fell down and hit his head. He was bleeding pretty bad. A Disney official ran out picked the small child up in his arms and ran with him to first aid. Some others grabbed the family and followed the man.

Fourth Time: We were eating at the Castle around 2003 before the restaurant changed (and was ruined in my opinion). Our waitress was from our home town and we were talking about things going on in Memphis. I was enjoying my very excellent large slice of Chocolate Mousse cake (sorry i have diverted from topic---I was in a chocolate fantasy). Well anyway, we had a late reservation, and we so enjoyed our visit with our waitress, that we did not realize how late it was. We were the only ones in the restaurant and they had already set up for the next day. We apologized and then said we had better hurry because we might have missed all the buses. The waitress said that there was need to worry. Disney knew we were there in fact the cameras were probably on us as we sat there and talked. She also said that Disney would get us to our resort. She added that they knew where everyone was in the park. We got outside the castle and I was in heaven shooting pictures becuase there was no one around. A security guard came up to us and asked where we were staying. We said WL. He very kindly said not to hurry and that I could shoot all the pictures that I wanted. We stated that we were worried that we had missed our transportation. He said that Disney would get us back to our resort. We left the park and another guard met us and asked us if we were staying at WL and showed us the bus. A very nice bus driver met us and told us he was talking us back to WL. The bus had "Mickey Mouse" in the destination spot. He let me take a picture of my daughter driving the bus. Everyone was absolutely incredible. A Magical Evening.

Your fourth experience was just awesome!

It's good to know just how Disney goes above and beyond - and keeps us all safe.

Back in 1999, before Fantasia 2000 came out, Judy and I were in one of the display areas behind the Art Of Disney Store in the Studios. Our secondary collection is flamingos and we were drooling over some of the artwork and sculpts. There was a nearby couple fascinated by the Donald from the movie. There was nobody else around.

Judy suggested, in a conspiratorial tone, that she and the other woman create a diversion while I and her husband break into the cases and take some of the artwork.

The man said that it was a wonderful idea but also said "I would have a problem with that, I work for Disney Security". At which point all four of us just broke up laughing.

Did that documentary also state that we never landed on the moon?

Interesting thread, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for security "issues" on my upcoming trip. I imagine during F&W there may be situations arising as people drink around the world.

The only thing I can remember noticing at Disney was a lost little boy at MK. He was crying and looking bewildered, but before my mother and I (who are forever on the alert for pedos and kidnappers) could approach him and attempt to help him find his family, another tourist guy came and intercepted us, reaching the child first. I think the man might even have taken the boy's hand, leading him in the opposite direction. My mom and I just looked at each other and with merely a glance decided to follow them-- neither one of us liked the look of some strange man leading a small lost child away from the spot where he had last seen his family. If it had been a costumed CM we probably would have felt differently. We followed them a few hundred yards and found that the man led the boy to his mother, who was standing with a CM and looking quite frantic.
Satisfied that the man was a good guy and had been doing the right thing, we just continued on our way to some ride or whatever. It occurs to me now that he was probably a plainclothes security guy (we didn't notice an earpiece but we weren't looking for one, either).
At the time neither my mother nor I were willing to let some random stranger walk off with a little kid to do whoknowswhat. We felt better knowing in case the man tried to take him out of the park or into a bathroom that we were on the scene, ready to make a fuss and save the day!
Much thanks to Disney security being hyper vigilant. I'd apologize for being suspicious but I'm not sorry-- I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I wasn't going to go chasing after them screaming "Perv! Perv!" but we took time out of our vacation to ensure that this kid was going to the lost family department and not into the back of a van.

Melodramatic? Sure. But better safe than sorry! :rolleyes1

I find this very interesting. Not sure why, but, I never really thought about being watched. I'm going to be looking for the security folks next visit. :thumbsup2

A couple of years ago at Disney the chain rope leading up to the Fantasyland Skyway Station was down, so I took this as an invitation to go up and look at the old building. I got up to the fifth step and was accosted by three of the undercover security officers. My mind boggled at how many of them there must be in the entire park.

The only cameras I have ever seen were in Wonders of Life. They were kind of weird as they were SO obvious. Has anyone noticed "hidden" cameras around the parks?

In 2005 while standing in line, there was a large group of girls mid teens on a class trip. I am a huge people watcher and I noticed a man standing close to them he was alone and as I continued watching I realized he had his arms crossed and he had a camera under his armpit and he was taking pictures of the girls breasts well I found the CM in front and told her what was happening and before I knew it undercover plain clothed were there in seconds. The class trip "moms" thanked me profusely and I was able to give security a statement. He had hundreds of shots on his memory card and I am relieved he was caught and hopefully banned from Disney forever.

In 2008 there was a bomb threat and they had the dogs out while entering MK for MNSSHP for added security in the checked bag lines.

While waiting for the 40th Celebration to start on Saturday at the Castle, I spotted a "hidden" camera that I honestly had never seen before and a little surprised i've never seen mentioned around the DIS before considering it's location "front and center".....

On our last trip, we were staying in Pop, it was our last day so we went down for breakfast while planning our last few hours before the ME. One second I'm checking the menu, the next we're trying to figure out where our 2 yr old went. Dh and I quickly looked around, didn't see her and didn't hear her, so I alerted a CM.

I was terrified she'd walked out the automatic doors toward the pool. I searched there a dozen times, but the pool was all clear. I don't know how long we searched for, but it felt like forever.

She didn't want to go home, she wanted to go see Mickey again. She knew how things worked, so she walked right out the automatic doors, and went straight for the first bus she found (ME). She was walking beside a family so never once looked out of place - and she was happy as could be.

The entire resort seemed to shut down while they searched for her. No busses moved and We saw security and managers popping out of the wood work. In the end the first CM I talked to was the one who found her - based on our description. She approached the other family and asked if she belonged to them. The CM then took her hand to lead her back to us - and THAT was when she started to cry:rotfl2:

Not Disney, but amusing case of abandoned bag - when in University a friend was hauling a load of bricks in his back pack (I don't recall why he had them), they were heavy and he didn't want to lug them everywhere so he set them down in one building while he went for lunch. in the mean time, the building was locked down, the SWAT team arrived as did the bomb dogs. It was scary to have everyone come piling into where we were eating telling about the bomb - upon having the bag described, my friend realized what was happening and ran over to retrieve his bricks. He arrived just as the bag was deemed safe and the police opened it. :lmao: Poor guy will never live it down.

I kinda looked but didn't really notice :confused3 anything in August when we were there.

We're going on DCL:boat: in December...anyone know about security on the boats?pirate:

I have never seen Mickey's Secret Police but I'll be on the lookout on the ship and on land!!! Haha all I need is Tigger's Private Eye costume and I'll be good to go!!!

Haha - good answer :p It was some years back now but I might just try and google it to see if I can find the name of the program.

Well can't find the name of the program - it was about Disney closely guarded attraction secrets. But yeah, now when I think about it they'd be working their little secret agent socks off dealing with all the photography that goes on if that were the case
