Bad Back and FoP - experiences so far?

I suspect this has been answered in other posts, but after a simple search, I was unable to come up with an answer...

My mother has bulging discs, and so she decided not to get a FP+ for FoP. I told her I didn't think that FoP would jostle her a lot, and that she might want to reconsider skipping FoP (given all of the amazing reviews).

QUESTION - How is FoP for those of you with bad backs? Any issues?

I have minor back issues (there are days I can't straighten up). I've ridden FOP. I wouldn't ride it on a day that my back was giving me problems.

Yes, you do get jostled around a bit. And you lean way forward for the ride itself. It can shift suddenly side to side, or lean more forward or back.

I do in fact have a herniated disc and therefore should not ride a lot of rides at Disney (but I do). I did not find FoP to be at all problematic. There is some motion but it is smooth. The only thing that could be problematic is the back restraint, though I found it did not press against me very hard. If it hit someone in just the right spot, or if, as in the case of my friend who is a larger fellow, the CM has to manually lock it, then it might be uncomfortable.

Honestly, that being said, I had no qualms about it, but I ride everything. This one does not give me pause though. It is somewhat similar to Star Tours, but smoother and easier. I hope that helps.

I had surgery for a herniated disc last year. I don't ride roller coasters, but I did ride this and had zero issues. You don't really physically move that much. I think Star Tours jostles you more than FoP.

My Mom has been having back issues. We rode FOP Yesterday. The back restraint hurt her when it closed. She's glad she got to ride it but won't do it again. Unfortunately the closure of the restraint happens without warning so it can hit unexpectedly as it did to her. I know the first time I rode it whacked me good also because I wasn't ready & had no idea what to expect. The ride itself isn't a problem it's just the restraint closure that can be an issue.

I don't have bulging discs but I have some fairly bad lower back arthritis and I was fine.

My back was a hot mess on the drive from NY to Florida. Near the end of the trip, I wasn't able to drive for more than an hour and a half or so at a time without being in misery. We did AK on our second day in the parks, and I rode FoP with absolutely no problems.

I cannot ride Thunder Mountain or Space Mountain anymore because of my back. I can ride Rockin Rollercoaster because it is rather smooth. I rode FOP without any trouble. Since you are leaning forward and have the back restraint, it placed me in a good position to not have any trouble on the ride. It is so amazing, it was definitely worth it.
