My dad loved liver and onions, including chicken livers. I hated it. I would just eat the sides when mom made that for dinner.

My grandmother LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEDDDDD Liver & Onions! She had a little place near our house that "made it so perfectly" that we would get dragged to after church on a regular basis. She was born in 1925 and called that one of her "Depression Dinners." To be clear, she meant the Great Depression, not that she was depressed and self-medicating with beef organs

I think liver and onions prepared properly is pretty good. I think I've only had it prepared that a time or two in my lifetime so I'd hesitate to try it again.

My wife hates liver and onions, yet she loves liverwurst and braunschweiger. She was horrified, when, at two restaurants where I ordered it that and she expressed her dislike and the waitress at both said it was their best selling entree. One called it "the most popular comfort food"
I looked, calf liver is $3.68 a pound now at Walmart and bacon is $5.84 a pound.

neither liver or lamb was ever served in our home when i was growing up. neither parent cared for liver (mom said the only time she willingly ate it was after she delivered one of us kids and had gone without eating for over 24 hours-it was the one and only dish the hospital would serve to new mothers). dad could'nt tolerate the idea of so much as smelling cooking lamb b/c he said he was made very ill due to the mutton he was served in ww2. after dad passed mom started getting lamb chops-i am addicted to lamb and we eat it frequently.

Mom would buy beef liver, cook it to death, and serve it with lovely sautéed onions and mashed potatoes. Hated the meat as it tasted like shoe soles.

The ex’s grand aunt taught me to love calves liver and treat it with respect; moist and tender her way.
Can only find calves liver at butcher shops this way and it costs about $9.00/ lb. Chicken livers are now about $3.00 /lb. No more poor folks food.

DGD would probably die if I told her I often make sauce Bolognese with chicken livers added. One of her favorite dishes and there I go poisoning her again…

When I was growing up, we occasionally had liver and onions. We might have had it more if my mother had liked it too! I always wondered if she didn’t like it as a result of being the one who prepared it.

i was curious if it's gone up tremendously in price like all other meats so i took a look at the boneless legs at costco the other day. same price-$6.99 per pound- that i've paid there for years. less expensive than even the less desirable steak options.

$9.99 a pound here. No idea about Costco.

I never see calves liver for sale anymore. Which is probably just as well. But that's the only kind I could eat. It's a lot better than beef liver. Neither one is too great, but it's got a lot of nutrients.
