Who here has a backyard pool? Have you closed it down for the season yet? How long do you keep it open? Do you maintain it or do you have a service?

We closed our above ground pool this weekend :guilty:

We open it, generally, the first week of May. So we get approx. 4 months of use out of it!! :sunny:

This was our first summer with it and we closed it two weekends ago. I don't know if we'll go longer next summer. Since we've never had a pool before, we probably went earlier just to make sure we did it correctly (actually, we still don't know if we did  )

We purchased a cover and a closing kit. It all came to around $115. You don't have to get the kit, but like I said we took extra precautions this year.

We have an above ground pool that we have not closed yet becuase we are going to take it down. We have had the pool for three years and its just not worth the trouble anymore. Its a pain to open, close and mantain. Not to mention in NE you can really only use the pool comfortably for two months, three at the most.

We have an inground pool and closed it 2 weeks ago. We had so much rain that the end of august was a waste pool wise! We open our pool the first week in June.

we have an inground that we open the middle of May and close the beginning of October. We have a pool heater so we can get the extra swimming time. DH and DS maintain the pool all season, but we do have a professional open and close it.

We just got a pool and we don't have to close it here in Texas. It has a HOT TUB...

Wasn't able to get much swimming out of it yet and we haven't been to "Pool School" so not sure of the "winter details" or any details for that matter!:lmao:

We have an inground pool and we closed it Labor Day weekend. We have never closed it this early before but the weather this year was just making it not worth the expense to keep it open

my DH opens it, closes it and maintains the pump/filter and I maintain the water. We both vacuum it

We were in our inground pool last night! It's heated and the water temp was 86. There is a service that is coming this Friday to close it for us though. I open it in mid May myself.

We have neighbors on both sides of us that have above ground pools and they've already closed theirs.

We have an inground pool. We open it mid May and then close it mid Sept. Dh does it all. He closed it about a week or so ago because of the weather.

Okay, for the benefit of everyone here in the south, what do you mean by "closing" and "opening" the pool? Just covering it? (DH and DS are still swimming laps in ours at night; it's a bit chilly for me, but I did swim over the weekend when it was sunny.)

We open it the beginning of May, and close it the middle of Sept. Since I was away and it turned green, I have to clear it before I close it grrr!

We just moved into a house with an in ground pool. You don't close pools here. Ours doesn't have a heater so I don't know how long we can swim, I hope until November or so. We have a pool company. It is only $110 a month and since the chemicals are about $65 a month it didn't seem so bad to just pay people to take care of it.

We closed our above ground pool a couple of weeks ago. I wish it were heated so that we could have more use of it. Sometimes the water is so cold even though the temperature is high. My DH maintains it. He works so hard for just a couple of months use.

We havent closed ours up but we live in Houston and its going to be hot here for quite a bit longer. We do use a pool service. They service the pool weekly in the summer months then every other week in the "winter".

Our pool is open 365 days a year. We're in Houston TX. We use it from mid April till mid Oct. Of course our lab uses it year round. Dh does reduce the amount of hours the pump runs when it's not in use-saves on chemicals and electricity. Dh is considering rigging up a solar heater so we can use it in the winter too.

We've held out and kept our inground pool open longer than normal. We were in last weekend with the water temp at 70°! This weekend will be closing time.

We do all the maintenance ourselves.

No heater here either, so it's mid May to mid Sept. for us too. We service it ourselves. I don't think northerners have the options that those of you who can keep them open year round do when it comes to having them serviced.

The most we have in our area (unless we hire a private individual looking for extra money) is a business that offers opening and closing services.

We have an in ground pool and closed it the weekend after Labor Day...not because of the weather but because of all the leaves falling...it became quite a pain to keep up with them and I got sick of pulling the cover on and off.

We have an inground pool. We don't close it till mid-October. Since we have one of those mesh winter covers, if the temp stays really hot in Sept, it could
turn green quickly. We open it the beginning of May and put the solar cover on to heat up the water by Memorial Day. :thumbsup2
