Backward messages in music... do they exist?

While they may exist, I think it is ridiculous to think we are actually getting a subconcious message from them when playing the recording normally. Wasn't that what the big deal was supposedly about in the first place?

My old neighbors were over the top Christians, and I was friends with a girl they were let living there. They would not let us play ANY music that they didn't buy at their church - including the Braveheart soundtrack. They honestly believed that the instrumental music was recorded over secret messages to worship the Devil. I made the mistake of buying a nature sounds CD for Christmas, they freaked. They insisted on listening to it in private before they came to the conclusion they didn't want it in their house. They got a video called "Hell's Bells" for me, all about the dangers found in modern music. It included lyric analysis, playing songs backwards, etc.... you should've heard what they said about Whitney Houston. It was total propaganda, but I still have the tape - it's good for a few laughs.
