Hi all. I've used this wonderful board in the past when I've had Disability questions and once again I'm in need of some assistence. My wife requires an ECV if there is a need to walk more than just a short distance. This is WDW so eveything is an extremely long distance. With that said, she'll need the ECV even if she goes on any of the tours that Disney offers. DAK is her favorite park and she is dying to take the Backstage safari tour. Does anyone know if she'll be able to use her ECV for that. Any and all advice would be apprriciated. Thanks, Ray

I've been curious about the tours as well. I use a manual chair but am not able to walk at all. Though I can do some major transfers.

I'd love to be able tour someday.

Although we have not done the Backstage tour, we have done the Keys to the Kingdom tour with my mother in an ECV. This was on day two of our vacation, so she was not quite up to her normal driving style in the ECV, but she was accomodated on the tour. We got to do all of the locations and the Guide was excellent!

Be very sure to let the agent who takes your reservation know that you are with an ECV user. They will work with you!

I was considering the Keys tour myself. This is great to know, as I want to take Gram in the ECV on this tour, as a friend of mine is one of the tour guides. Thanks for the info!

I know that Lisa (Talking Hands) has done a number of tours in a power wheelchair. I don't know if she has done that one. The person taking the reservations should be able to help you. I do know that for most of the tours there may be a limited number of wheelchairs/ecvs allowed for each tour.

I would like to know more about BackStage Magic also.

But, according to the CM I talked to there will not be any problems. I explained when talking to the CM that I would be in an ECV and she said that the bus would be ECV friendly and that I could do the complete tour with no problems.

Just got back from WDW. And I do mean just. Did both the Backstage Magic and the Sunrise Safari with my wheelchair. Previously have done Keys to the Kingdom and Backstage Safari as well as the behind the scenes tour at the Land. NOne have been a problem. The only problem I would see is if you cannot transfer, you will be unable to do a few things on the Backstage Magic tour. And you cannot take an ECV on the Land tour. Manual chair ok though. Backstage Safari not a problem.

Thanks for the update! I can transfer and walk but stairs absolutely are impossible. So as long as I don't have to do stairs, walk long distances or stand for a long time I'll be fine.

I hope you had a great time on your visit. We are 102 days from Disney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Again,

Jane

Jane if you cannot do steps then there is a section of the tour you cannot do. Sorry but there are steps into the backstage area of American Adventure. They may perhaps substitute something else and not do that but I would hope not as it is most interesting. There are about a dozen steps into that area.
Unfortunately the people that book the tours don't always know the specifics of the tour.

Thanks Lisa! Hummm if Wes would help me I could probably do a dozen if they let me take my time! I'll pay for it the next day : (

I'm going to need to think about this! Do you manage the stairs I know that you have really bad Fibro?

Thanks again Lisa!

I managed the stairs ok but I took them really slow. They didn't mind my taking my time. If I had the slightest doubt I would not have tried. But I knew that the stuff back there is really fascinating so I wanted to see it again.

Thanks so much Lisa!

I think I will take my cane and have my son help me. I can walk them but I pay the next day (RA and Fibro). I'll not be able to walk at all on the 4th. We are doing it on the 3rd and the 4th of July we don't have anything planned but a resort day so I can rest.

I hope the rest of the group I'm with doesn't mind a pokey :) It will take me a while to negotiate the steps.

You are always so wonderful with your help! Thanks a million!

Jane
