Has anyone done this backstage tour? Is it worth it? What do you get to see? Thanks!

If you like to see how things work and don't mind having some of the magic ruined, then it's well worth it. Highlights of our tour: our guide - he was so knowledgeable about the animals and the park itself; we got to pet a rhino!; visiting the vet facilities. We've said since then that if we didn't have that tour then we would have run out of things to do at AK.

DH and I did this a few years ago and thought it was great. We met our guide Paul at the entrance of the AK very early in the morning. He drove the van behind the scenes, which was pretty interesting. We visited with the elephants, rhino, giraffe, the food prep area, the operating room at Conservation Station and touched an alligator. The tour ended with our own private ride through the Kilimanjaro Safari. Instead of the "Little Red" soundtrack, Paul gave us more information about the safari itself.

Great tour, but I believe there is a minimum age limit of 16 years old.

I just did it a few months ago and I loved it (but then, I love all things related to AK). It was pretty much as described above. About 1/2 way thru the tour, we went into a building for about 1/2 hour where we had a "potty break", bottled water, snacks, saw a film, and got to pet a small lizard (thank goodness it wasn't a snake!). At the end of the tour we got a pin.

I absolutely LOVED this tour! Of course I am a huge animal lover so this was right up my alley.

It was interesting to see just how "into" Disney is about animal conservation. We got to pet a white rhiho and a chinchilla. (Glad I didn't have to pet a lizard like Simba's Mom!), learned a lot about how Disney works with the animals and got to see a lot of behind the scenes things that I found very facinating.

Have fun on this tour! ::yes::

We took the tour this past summer with our group...which included a 12, 13 & 14 year old...and another family that had a little girl who was about 4. Apparently, there's no age limit...but, the little one was bored to tears.
