Backpacks

Yep. I take one all the time. If there isn't a specific spot for it on a ride, you can just put it at your feet.

DH and I usually just place them at our feet inside each ride with no problems. The only rides that I can think of that give us a bit of an issue is 7DMT and Space Mountain, because of how snug the seats are. But for those I usually just take my DH backpack and put it with mine by my feet.

Your lap. Some of the big slow rides have space at your feet, but on coasters you'll probably be holding your bag unless both it and you are very small. There isn't really any risk of your stuff flying away except maybe on RNR since it inverts you. I carried a backpack and camera bag everywhere in the parks and it was never cumbersome.

My boyfriend always brings a back pack and he usually could put it at his feet. His trick is to put his legs through the arm straps to make sure it stays on for the bumpier rides like Space Mountain.

Sounds good. On the RNR and Space Mountain my wife and 6 year old will be staying off those so they can hold it. I will be on with my 14 year old. I think those are the only 2 they are chickening out of besides Everest and my little one may be afraid of the Haunted Mansion.
