We were lucky this trip and had no bad restaurant experiences. So much depends on the people working that particular day and we were fortunate that good people were working at every restaurant we visited.
Hollywood and Vine - We went to HV as part of the Fantasmic Dinner Package. I was a little worried about this one after reading negative reviews about the food and service, but we were pleased. I thought the salmon and roasted potatoes very good, the kids liked the seafood salad and ice cream station and DH pretty much tried everything else. Our server was quick with the drinks, dropped by to ask if we needed anything else and brought the check quickly. I'd give the food a B, good food, nothing fancy.
'OHana - We had been here before and loved it, but didn't know if that was a fluke. I'm glad to say it wasn't. I only eat fish and seafood and our server was very good at bringing me more shrimp. DH loved the turkey. He did think the pork was dry, and said the steak was just sirloin, nothing fancy, but he thinks its worthwhile coming just for the turkey. The kids tried a little of the meats, but mostly ate the salad, wontons and beans. A few weeks ago, I read that someone went to 'OHana and was given spring rolls instead of wontons and I have to say I was worried. The wontons are one of my favorite things and I was relieved when they were there! I'd give the food I had an A, but DH would probably give his a B. The server was very good at bringing us refills of everything.
Boma - We were getting sick of the offerings at Mara for breakfast, so decided to go to Boma one morning. They had a nice selection of hot and cold food, none of it really exotic and it was a nice change. Food was B, good server again.
Jiko- We would never have gone to Jiko if we wouldn't have been staying at AKL, which would have been a great loss. This was the best meal of the trip. I tried the monkfish, which was good, but I really wished I had ordered the bass that DH ordered. It was very tender and had more flavor than my monkfish had. One DD ordered the macaroni and everybody agreed it was the best macaroni they'd ever had. The other DD got the steak, which she and DH said was tender and excellent. Another great server, A for the food.
Whispering Canyon - We come here every year and I thought the food was better than last year. Last year, it just seemed a little dried out. I had the grouper, which was good and not overcooked. Why is it that the restaurant industry has decided that people who order fish should get one vegetable selection, while the people who order chicken and beef get two? DH had the pork chops, which he said were very good. The kids split an order of the pasta with chicken, which was a little too spicy for them. They enjoyed the pony races and we got to see DH do the Buttercup dance again. Our server kept up with refills, but really wasn't into the antics so much. It was packed when we were there and I think it was enough just for him to keep up with his tables. B for food.
