Back to the Future The Ride

Now rumor has it that the supposed Simpsons revamp is dead in the water. Something about royalties to the likenesses of the characters.

I wonder what plan B is.

I'd love to hear where you got that information.. ;)

Matt Groenig is all about merchandizing...savy enough to want to get it on the boards before the movie premiere in July...timing is everything.

BTW, Simpsons are still very big. The most recent Season DVD came out on Tuesday. Went to the big blue box store an hour after they opened & got one of the very last ones.

We skipped Univ. last year but, teenage son is clamoring to visit this summer, just in case the ride comes about. We tend to squeeze days out of our WDW APs till they scream. Think we'll probably forego them this year, even though we own DVC and will stay there for part of the trip & concentrate on Univ. instead.

If they offer this new attraction, between the lower pre-sale tix prices @ Univ. & FOTL, think they'll draw in lots of new visitors, just like us.

Although I certainly don't know the whole story, I don't think it completely has to do with Groenig himself, but rather one of the actors/characters who is being stubborn about more money for both the movie AND the ride. Not sure how that whole thing works with royalties and all that.

I hope the whole thing works out myself. :) I think it would be a great new addition to Universal. Although I wish they would change the whole ride and not just the vehicles and theme. Not much on the motion simulators.

Made ya look.........:rotfl2:

I assume Bill and Ted reference is a joke? I heard either The Simpson or The Fast and The Furious...... I think Simpsons would be too much like Jimmy Neutron

I have my sources....and it will be complete with two fat guys in every car :thumbsup2

From screamscape: http://www.screamscape.com/html/universal_orlando.htm

It’s 2007 and from all reports sent in so far, there isn’t a whole lot going on inside Back To The Future’s closed dome. Sources tell us that all of the cars have been removed, but that’s about it. The ride is just sitting there half torn up but no progress is being made at all. Lots of rumors are being tossed around too from both sides of the country, so it’s hard to tell exactly what is going on right now. The latest reports from Hollywood where they weren’t even planning on installing the new ride until 2008 now indicate that their BTTF will stay open through 2008, delaying the new attraction until 2009. If Hollywood has been delayed by a year, then there is a good chance that the Orlando ride may also be delayed by a year as well. The rumors from Orlando are not good either. It may just be general frustration about the lack of any hard information from the higher ups talking, but there are now widespread reports about a complete breakdown in contract negotiations between some actor and the studio over the project that may have caused the entire project to be scrapped. If true, this puts Universal Orlando in a rather hard spot. Do they keep the ride running at 50% for the next year while the creative types come up with a new idea, do they just give up and close the rest of it, or spend the money to attempt to reopen the one side again for one more year? If anyone has some firm information about just what is going on, we would like to hear about it.

so the orlando ride is still half open? and the hollywood one fully open?

I hope the orlando one stays open for 2007 at least. I'm a bit of a major BTTF film fan and have never been to any of the universal parks to ride the ride but as I'm hopefully going to orlando this year sometime I'd be gutted if I'd just missed it!!

From what I've read the queues for the rides have still been quite long up until recently? so maybe with a bit of luck universal will patch it back up for a while at least. hopefully!

 Hello All, I am new here I have been casually observing for about 6 months. I am leaving for a Disney Universal trip in 9 days. I was watching this back to the future post about a month ago I figured all was lost. I am so so so so so excited we will be able to ride it one more time. A HUGE thank you to all who post on these forums as you are a wealth of info!!!!! I am a HRH vet this is our second trip. I am excited to begin at Disney POR but cant wait for FOTL.
Thank you all so much you just made my night!

Dont get your hopes up too high. While BTTF is still open, the rumors are still rampant about it closing. Now the latest thing to be tossed into the ring is an "insider" report about how the ride will become Battlestar Galactica...which is owned in syndication by NBC, the current parent company of Universal. The other major news could be that the ride goes down for six months, gets completely new ride cars, new ride system, new screens, new film new everything and opens up as a new BTTF. I opt for that second one....maybe mix some real 3D elements in....make it a little closer to Spiderman. But who knows at this point. BTTF is still on a day by day basis.
